What to Know About Useful Cambridge Police Station Fallout 4

Brotherhood of Steel members in power armor in Fallout 4

Every location is built a bit differently in a Bethesda game. Some are for exploration, others for the main story, and some are quest hubs for a faction. Cambridge Police Station in Fallout 4 is the latter, being a major part of interacting with the Brotherhood of Steel. As one of Fallout’s most visually unique factions, players are naturally drawn toward their power armor and laser weapons.

The police station, as a memory of law and order, is the perfect place for the hardline faction to make into a base. Whether you arrive there by accident or are guided by the game’s story, let’s talk about what you can expect at the police station.

A Cry for Help

So long as you are traveling near the Cambridge area early enough in Fallout 4’s story, you will certainly come across an errant distress signal. Named “Military Radio Broadcast AF95,” it signals the need for backup at the police station. Upon arrival, the player will find three living members of the Brotherhood of Steel dealing with a ghoul assault. Dozens of feral ghouls will pour toward the station in waves. The player can help the only truly armed group member, Paladin Danse, fend them off for a bit before they reach a moment of reprieve. Should the player speak to the Paladin, they are met with suspicion but hope.

Provided they don’t mouth off too much to the no-nonsense leader, the player will join the trio of Brotherhood members in the police station. Danse will ask the player for help receiving a deep-range transmitter to help them contact their allies from afar. Should the player take him up on his offer, they will accompany Danse on this mission and ultimately be offered a chance to join the Brotherhood as an Initiate. This will mark the beginning of the Brotherhood’s storyline. The player can help Danse’s companions, Rhys and Haylen, with repeatable quests that are offered out of the police station. Danse will also offer another follow-up quest from this location.

Dramatic Arrival

At a certain point in Fallout 4’s main story, the Brotherhood of Steel will arrive in force on their airship the Prydwen. With more soldiers on the ground, the Cambridge Police Station will be marshaled with a full garrison and transform completely. At this point, one of the office safes will notably contain an issue of the collectible magazine “Guns and Bullets” which the player will likely want. If the player proved themselves a member before this point, Danse will offer them a chance to visit the Prydwen, and the player can board a vertibird on the station’s roof. Otherwise, the players will need to earn Danse’s trust at this stage through the aforementioned quests.

At this point, the Cambridge Police Station will continue to serve as a hub to take the repeatable quests from Rhys and Haylen, provided they aren’t elsewhere for other Brotherhood quests. The station will be heavily guarded and if the player makes the Brotherhood hostile, approaching it will result in a firefight. However, the station will not be re-garrisoned if the soldiers there are killed. Therefore, an enemy of the Brotherhood need only launch an attack on the station once to clear it out of hostiles. Aside from the collectible magazine, the station’s loot is largely randomized and as good as any other lootable location at your level.

Final Thoughts

The police station makes for one of the better setpieces in Fallout 4’s story. The initial ghoul attack can be harrowing for an unprepared player, and the marshaling of it after the Brotherhood’s arrival makes you feel like the story has genuinely progressed. The way the Brotherhood acts as a military force is very important to the game’s atmosphere, and using the police station as a base fits perfectly. Should you choose to do the repeatable quests centered from this location, it can begin to feel like a real group operating out of a makeshift home. It would’ve been cool to see the indoor settlement system extended here. Regardless, the police station serves its role well in Fallout 4.
