Citadelle des Morts is the newest Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies map. At launch, the game had just two maps: Terminus and Liberty Falls. It is very common for Call of Duty to introduce maps later on, as Buried, Origins, Mob of the Dead, Call of the Dead, Ascension, and others were all added to their respective games after the fact. More are currently planned for Black Ops 6, but this is the first new one to arrive.
Citadelle des Morts Arrives on December 5
Citadelle des Morts is the latest Black Ops 6 map, and it might be the greatest. Neither Terminus nor Liberty Falls are bad, as both maps are interesting, unique takes on the game mode. The new citadel might just be a little more interesting and very unique. Based on the gameplay trailers and the info we’ve been given, it looks unlike any other Black Ops map before it. By this point in the franchise, after six titles and countless maps, it’s good to make new, unique places for players to visit. Since mowing down zombies doesn’t change much, the maps need to and they need to be good. In my opinion, this one looks great.
The map is based on Carcassonne, a citadel near Toulouse. One Call of Duty content creator scoped out the real-life place before the launch on December 5. It’s set in a run-down castle in the fictional European microstate of Avalon, which was a major part of the campaign story. It has taverns, dungeons, and even a giant cannon that strangely resembles a lion, but the coolest new addition in this game mode is the wonder weapon(s).
Four Swords Coming to Black Ops 6
For the most part, zombies maps in the history of Call of Duty have wonder weapons. The Ray Gun, the Thundergun, the Blundergat, the Paralyzer, the Staff of Fire, the Wrath of the Ancients, Dragon Strike, Death of Orion, and so many more have all been unique, interesting weapons for specific maps. Citadelle des Morts is getting four elemental swords as its wonder weapon.
Each sword has a different skill. The Bastard Sword is a claymore that can destroy zombies and deflect incoming projectiles. This can then be turned into one of the four elemental swords. The fire-infused Caliburn, the electric Durendal, the Aether-filled Balmung, and the Solais are all forms of the sword. There seems to be plenty to do on the map as well, with oil spots for lighting on fire and the aforementioned lion cannon that can be used.
It all truly boils down to how interesting the main crux of the map is. If it’s too convoluted or annoying, players won’t enjoy it. If it has an intriguing storyline with fun Easter eggs, primarily ones that line up with the existing storyline and lore, then it could be one of the most fun maps yet. It is part of a free content update that also brings in new multiplayer maps, new perks, a Christmas makeover for Nuketown, and brand-new weapons. The game is also featured on Game Pass, so gamers can have all of this without anything beyond their subscription price.
In Conclusion
The maps really make or break zombies in any Black Ops title. The gameplay, for the most part, is the same as it always is, and it’s always fun to blast through hordes of the undead. The good maps have nothing to do with the game they’re featured in or the gameplay but everything to do with how they’re laid out and what interesting features they bring. Time will ultimately tell, but it certainly looks like Citadelle des Morts has the chance to be one of CoD’s best-ever maps.
