Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is now considered to be the most wanted game ahead of 2025. That was revealed during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted 2024 broadcast, hosted by PC Gamer. It was tough competition this year, as next year is full of heavy hitters that are getting primed and ready to be released to their loyal fanbases. With many players who are dedicated to the award-winning strategy series, Civilization VII still managed to top them all.
Why It’s The Most Wanted
Civilization VII is all about building an empire that will withstand the tests of time and troubles. Keeping with Civ tradition, players will be tasked with building cities and expanding their territory while taking the roles of legendary leaders. Players will take their empires through three ages, each one ruled by a different historical figure. Of course, building an empire isn’t the only challenge. Players will be able to take on players who only want to see their empire fall to its knees. Thanks to cross-play, these battles can be fought between players on PC and consoles.
What sets Civilization VII apart from its predecessors is the ingenuity behind the latest title. Improvements have been made that make the game accessible to both new and experienced players. This includes an in-depth tutorial that makes getting into the game easier than before. Making a new addition to a long-running series accessible is important because intimidation is a big factor that prevents people from jumping into it. The decisions made to reduce the intimidation factor will boost the game’s numbers in the long run. Civilization VII is set to be released on February 11, 2025.
The Other Games In The Top 5
While Civilization 7 came out on top during the PC Gaming Show, its competition deserves no less praise. Each game could have easily taken its place. Doom: The Dark Ages took the second spot with its gory action committed by a legendary Slayer (AKA: Doomguy.) Monster Hunter Wilds managed to land in the third spot, a powerful game that has the potential to be Capcom’s best-selling title. Slay the Spire 2, the sequel to an iconic deck-builder, scored the number 4. Surprisingly, bottoming out the top 5 was Grand Theft Auto VI, a sequel over 10 years in the making.

A Busy Year For Gaming
The PC Gaming Show accomplished one of its biggest goals during the broadcast. That goal is showing off just how much players have to look forward to in the new year. This includes games that feel like they’re right around the corner. February is especially looking to be a busy month with games like Avowed, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Civilization VII being on the release calendar. Of course, other massive titles, like Grand Theft Auto VI, will be released later in the year.
For now, we can all just play our current favorite games as 2024 grows ever closer to its end. Now’s the time to binge that massive RPG or dive deep into a time-stealing cozy game before those new titles arrive. For myself, finishing up Dragon Age is big on the to-do list, a tremendous task full of immense amounts of hard decisions. Don’t think 2024 won’t be going without a virtual bang though. There are still giant events to come, like The Game Awards, Horror Game Awards, and Steam Awards. December is certain to be a fun-filled time for gamers around the world.
