Coffee Talk Tokyo: Serve Yokai & Humans In Futuristic Tokyo

Coffee Talk Tokyo still

Coffee Talk Tokyo, the newest game in the Coffee Talk series is slated to release next year. While the first two games in the Coffee Talk series had you pouring coffee in Seattle, the third game will see your character serving customers in Tokyo instead. Coffee Talk Tokyo will continue the trend of the first two games and maintain a cozy atmosphere as you serve coffee to unique customers. Due to the third game being set in Japan, some of those customers are unique to Japanese folklore.

New Locale And New Patrons

The next installment in the Coffee Talk series, Coffee Talk Tokyo was revealed during Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase livestream this week. Instead of serving coffee in Seattle, players will pour coffee in a fictionalized version of Tokyo, Japan as the title implies. Along with the new location, your barista will also be serving new customers as well. A couple of the new customers will include Kenji, who is a Kappa which is a creature from Japanese folklore, and a ghost named Ayame.

Kenji is a retired salaryman and Ayame is a ghost who wants to do something with her life, albeit a literal lack of one. Besides new customers, your barista will also be getting a new assistant by the name of Vin. Besides being an assistant to the player’s barista, Vin is also dealing with a personal issue which doesn’t sound like fun. It won’t be all new faces though as some old customers will also be visiting your coffee shop in Tokyo. Coffee Talk Tokyo sounds like it’ll have a good mix of old and new faces which is pretty cool.

Stencils And Social Media

Coffee Talk Tokyo will also be adding a couple of new gameplay mechanics as well. One of which is the addition of sprinkle stencils. Baristas who want to add a little extra something to the lattes they make can use the stencils to create different latte art. Another new gameplay feature is the upgraded Tomodachill in-game social media app. The barista can keep in touch with old friends and see the status of new ones with the upgraded app.

New Soundtrack And Returning Talent

Besides the new customers, location, and gameplay mechanics. Coffee Talk Tokyo will also be getting a new lo-fi soundtrack from returning composer Andrew “AJ” Jeremy. Besides the cozy setting and serving coffee, the Coffee Talk games are known for having a pretty chill soundtrack. Having Andrew “AJ” Jeremy come back to compose music for Coffee Talk Tokyo is going to be a real treat.

Andrew “AJ” Jeremy won’t just be the only familiar face working on Coffee Talk Tokyo. Both Anna Winterstein and Kimitaka Ogawa will also be returning to work on the third game. Anna Winterstein worked as a co-writer for the first game’s sequel Coffee Talk: Hibiscus and Butterfly, while Kimitaka Ogawa worked as the English-to-Japanese translator for the first and second Coffee Talk games. Coffee Talk Tokyo sounds like it’s brewing up to be a pretty cozy experience and fans can expect to appreciate its aroma in 2025 on PC, PlayStation Five, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
