It’s official: Congalala the Pink Fur Beast is making its return in Monster Hunter Wilds. This was revealed in the Scarlet Forest gameplay broadcast shown during the Tokyo Game Show 2024. For about an hour, the dev team took to the stage to show off a glimpse of what the locale has to offer. Among the excitement caused by another returning monster, the broadcast revealed quite a few other big pieces of information.
The Return of Congalala
Monster Hunter Wilds makes Congalala’s seventh appearance in the game series. The monster was first introduced in the second game back in 2006. It has also appeared in the Monster Hunter Frontier series, Online, and several other spin-offs. Congalala has become infamous during its time causing trouble for hunters across generations. Other than its bright pink coloring, it is most well-known for its gassy attacks from both ends. Along with being unhygienic, these attacks can cause hunters to suffer from ailments.
Congalala isn’t just making another regular appearance. It has been revamped and remodeled to fit the Wilds style. The fur on its arms is longer and drapes down to the ground, which gives it a bit of an orangutan resemblance. Along with cosmetics, the Pink Fur Beast has a few new surprises. One of them involves being able to eat a new kind of mushroom to unleash more powerful attacks. Funnily enough, the Hunter can actually steal this special shroom to use in some tasty dishes.
Seikret Customization Confirmed
The return of Congalala wasn’t all that was shown during the live Scarlet Forest gameplay, of course. Among the reveals was one that Monster Hunter fans were eagerly waiting for. The broadcast and developers confirmed that Seikrets, the in-game mount, can be customized. This was shown off with a Seikret that was light green, red, and yellow. This differs from the footage of the seemingly default Seikret that has been shown off before, which is mainly green and purple.
A More Immersive Environment
In previous showcases of Wilds gameplay, the game was confirmed to be the most immersive Monster Hunter game to date. This was once again shown off thanks to the broadcast during Tokyo Game Show 2024. One of the biggest immersive details is how players can move between locales. For the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest, the transition is seamless with a tunnel being used instead of a loading screen. It is currently unclear if these two environments will be physically connected with the others that will be found within the game.
Two other immersive details truly stood out during the livestream. One involves what comes after a successful hunt. Normally, a monster’s body would just disappear after a certain amount of time. In Wilds, their bodies actually decompose to sometimes leave bone piles behind. The other detail has everything to do with how even the smallest creatures interact with their environments in the game. This includes a not-so-pretty scene of a carnivorous plant chomping down on a poor little bird. The devs took the time to show off that little immersive detail, which just shows how living and breathing Wilds is meant to feel.
Conclusion
As with every speck of news for Monster Hunter Wilds, future players have become even more eager to play the game. The reveal of Congalala came only a short time after the reveal of Yian Kut-Ku‘s own return. A day before that, during the PlayStation State of Play, the reveal date and flagship were both shown off. It’s clear to see that it’s been a wild few days for future players. It’s even more clear how they can’t wait to play the game on February 28, 2025.
