Cult Of The Lamb Unholy Alliance Provides Co-Op Update

Cult of The Lamb was released two years ago and has remained a favorite for many gamers. The game sought to combine roguelike combat with the rising popularity of cozy games/farming sims, and it completed its goal well. Cult of The Lamb appeals to many different kinds of gamers because it allows you to either indulge in the farming/life sim aspect or simply hack and slash monsters.

In Cult of The Lamb, we play as an unnamed lamb who is slaughtered as a sacrifice. He is then brought back to life by an entity known as The One Who Waits. He gives The Lamb some of his power and the ability to start a cult. The One Who Waits demands that The Lamb recruits as many followers of this cult as he can. He also has to defeat those who betrayed the demon; four Bishops of the Old Faith.

As the player, you do just that. You will alternate between running your cult and going into the different biomes to defeat enemies, unlock different resources, and get closer to defeating each Bishop. In the cult, The Lamb is responsible for housing, feeding, cleaning, and general care of the cult. Of course, it all becomes more self-sustaining at one point in the game. This progression allows your followers to take care of most of the chores in the cult, leaving you more free to go on crusades.

On the crusades, you slaughter enemies in roguelike fashion. Your ultimate goal is to go from location to location, killing and collecting resources as you go. There are four biomes; Darkwood, Anura, Anchordeep, and Silk Cradle. The ending of each biome has a bishop for a boss that you must defeat before facing The One Who Waits.

Unholy Alliance

Cult of The Lamb has released a few free updates before, aside from their paid DLC. This includes Relics of The Old Faith, Sins of the Flesh, and now Unholy Alliance. Each of these are major updates that include a lot of new content that brings fans back to the game after they’ve finished it. While Cult of The Lamb allows you to continuously play after you’ve finished the main story, it does get a bit repetitive and underwhelming when there isn’t a major goal to work towards. These free updates keep fans interested in the content.

Unholy Alliance was released on August 12th and came out alongside the new paid DLC, Pilgrim Pack. The biggest feature in the Unholy Alliance update is co-op. In the notes by Massive Monster on Steam, it reads, “Simply plug in or connect a controller if you’re playing on the same PC, and configure co-op in the pause menu to get started.” Aside from going on crusades, you can also fish, take care of cult needs, and play Knucklebones with co-op mode.

There is also the final bishop questline, which will have a defeated Bishop return to you and give you a quest. You will be able to unlock a new trait and receive a final reward for that Bishop. There are twenty-one new traits available for your followers as well including a trait called Jerk which makes your follower extra annoying, and Poet which will ensure that the follower never works or does chores. Some features allow you to “pet” your followers and become polyamorous. This prevents followers from getting jealous when The Lamb marries more than one person.

You can also build a nursery and have a Knucklebones structure in your cult. There are new fleeces, relics, tarots, and more. Much of these things Massive Monster didn’t release in detail, wanting Cult of the Lamb players to discover them for themselves.

Final Thoughts

Cult of the Lamb is a great game that is incredibly fun. It has something for everyone, allowing people who are used to playing more chill and cozy games to enjoy a farming sim aspect, and more intensive gamers get a roguelike. With varying game difficulties you can make Cult of the Lamb a challenge or a cakewalk. With the new Unholy Alliance update, it will bring more content to both new and long-time players. Cult of The Lamb is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, and Mac.
