Daredevil is Long Overdue for a Game

Daredevil

If there’s one Marvel superhero that comes to my mind that is underrated, I immediately go to Daredevil. Matthew Murdock is a blind lawyer by day and a horned vigilante by night. This character has a comic history just as colorful and long-running as others like Spider-Man and the Hulk. But for some reason, he never truly caught on in the public eye. Daredevil is what I would describe as a perfect B-lister.

He’s not Marvel’s most famous series. He’s not as popular as Spider-Man, the X-Men, or even Iron Man. But the quality of his stories speaks for themselves. Ever since his comics started, fans have been eating them up, and for good reason. These same stories were eventually adapted into Netflix’s Daredevil television show, which aired from 2015-2018. If you ask me, there is no superhero in the Marvel pantheon due to a video game more than the man without fear.

Daredevil’s Track Record

I mentioned the Daredevil show on Netflix, and I want to bring that up further. That show, even when it came out close to a decade ago, was a huge deal. Daredevil was still that kind of character back then, as he is now. He is a semi-popular character, but one that hasn’t quite hit mainstream yet. So the fact that he was getting a big-budget television show was really exciting, and the fact that it was in the MCU? Even better.

This show was incredible. The best part about the show was how it adapted certain stories and characters from the comics. The biggest thing that stood out to me about this show was the pacing. This show wasn’t worried about having some slower-paced segments. And it really pays off, because it gives the audience ample time to understand the characters. The worst part, honestly, was that the show was canceled, and we never got more.

The Canceled Game

Crazily enough, Daredevil actually had a video game once. It was being developed back in the early 2000s, but it actually got canceled in about 2003. The most unbelievable part about all of this is the fact that the game is actually playable. There are tons of videos online about a build of the game that was released. It’s not official, but it’s such an old game. It wasn’t based on the movie that was released at the time, which was honestly pretty rough.

It was based on the comics. This game was actually really cool. It’s a fun time capsule to look back on. The combat mechanics seemed pretty standard for the time, but the coolest part has got to be the traversal. Daredevil can slide around his environment with his acrobatics and also use his billy club. This gave the game a really smooth feeling to it. How the developers adapted his signature “radar sense” was also really unique and fun as well.

Daredevil’s Potential

Now? The most Daredevil has had in terms of games is guest appearances in other games. He was playable in “Ultimate Alliance 3”. He also made a very small cameo in the Insomniac Spider-Man games. Well, not him, but his law office. And those games really reminded fans of how desperately he deserves a new video game. Daredevil and Spidey team up all the time, so it really would be perfect for both characters.

In terms of Daredevil’s current output, he has a bright future. The comics are currently pretty great. They usually always are. He has a new show in the works over at Disney+, which should reinvigorate his popularity. Unfortunately, that show has had some behind-the-scenes troubles. Even with this new show coming out soon, a new video game for the devil of Hell’s Kitchen would be absolutely phenomenal, and a fan favorite at that.
