Chaos Blade is obtained relatively late in the game. To obtain this Katana, players must defeat Champion Gundyr. Champion Gundyr is an optional boss and is a challenging fight. After defeating him, players should make their way to the Firelink Shrine of that area. However, instead of entering the Firelink Shrine, players must take the path to the left where they will find this amazing Katana.
Chaos Blade Overview
Chaos Blade is a Katana in Dark Souls 3 and is probably one of the most unique weapons in the game. It is a weapon that damages the wielder with every attack. Each attack that you do with this weapon damages the player for about 1 percent of their total health. This can seem a bit disappointing to the player base as Dark Souls 3 is a tough game where your health matters a lot and any mistake can cost you your life.
However, this Katana makes up for the loss of health by doing more bleeding than any other Katana in the game. Bleeding is an extremely good status effect in the game, allowing players to deal a massive amount of damage to enemy combatants or bosses once the bleeding meter fills up. This is an amazing passive status effect to have. The bleeding effect is made even better on Katanas thanks to their faster moveset allowing them to fill the Blood Loss meter way more quickly.
This weapon also has the skill called Hold which allows the players to hold the weapon in a stance. When in the stance, players can perform a light attack to execute a highly damaging lunge attack. Players can also perform a heavy attack which will allow them to perform parries. This weapon cannot be infused or buffed and has the moveset similar to other Katanas in the game.
Stat Requirements, Scaling & Focus
Chaos Blade comes with an initial stat requirement of 16 Strength and 14 Dexterity. It also has a scaling of E in Strength and A in Dexterity. This Katana scales the best with Dexterity therefore players must level up Dexterity as much as possible. Upon fully upgrading the weapon it gets a scaling of S in Dexterity, but the scaling remains E in Strength.
Since this Katana scales the best with Dexterity, therefore players must strive to get their Dexterity to a maximum of level 60. This will allow them to deal the most amount of damage with this weapon. Other than that, players must level up their Health and Stamina. The rest of the stats are not important as this weapon cannot be infused with buffs that you can get from Faith and Intelligence.
Synergetic Weapons, Spells & Rings
Chaos Blade does not need any other weapon and performs exceptionally well on its own. Since the weapon is purely Dexterity-based and cannot be infused with Spells, therefore players do not need any Spells with this build too. However, there are Rings that players can use to counter the self-damage this weapon does.
- Chloranthy Ring raises the Stamina recovery speed of the players and is a great Ring to have for any Dexterity build.
- Pontiff’s Right Eye boosts attack power after rapid hits, which works extremely well with a Katana.
- Pontiff’s Left Eye restores health after rapid hits which will counter the blood loss caused by this weapon.
- Ring of Favor is a great neutral Ring that simply increases the Health, Stamina, and equip load of the player.

Chaos Blade is an amazing Katana that deals massive damage at the cost of health to the player’s health. However, this can be easily countered thanks to the Ring options available. With the correct stat investment, this Katana is the highest damaging in the game. The bleeding it causes instantly deletes the health of bosses making it one of the best weapons to use in Dark Souls 3
