Dead by Daylight has multiple forms of currency: Blood Points, Iridescent Shards, and Auric Cells. Just by playing the game, players will earn Blood Points, and they gain Iridescent Shards by raising their account level. However, many of the characters and cosmetic items can only be unlocked with Auric Cells, so how do you get them? Here’s the full guide on everything you will need to know.
What Are Auric Cells?
Auric Cells are the premium currency in Dead by Daylight. Where Blood Points are used to buy things in the Blood Web, these are used in the shop. Like Iridescent Shards, they can be used to buy new characters and cosmetic items. Iridescent Shards, though, have limitations: they cannot be used for licensed content or much of the cosmetics. This is where Dead by Daylight can earn a little more money.
That’s also where the Auric Cells come in. Players are able to use Auric Cells to unlock any of the characters and cosmetics. And, many fewer are required when compared to Iridescent Shards. Their purchasing power even extends to licensed characters, which otherwise have to be purchased by the chapter as DLC. No doubt this all sounds too good to be true. What’s the catch with this system?
The Hard Truth
As a premium currency, players should expect Auric Cells to be, well, premium. The only reliable way to get them is by spending real-world money. Depending on what platform you’re playing on, the stores may run deals periodically throughout the year, but in general, you’re going to have to pony up about $1 per 100 Auric Cells, with small bonuses being given to players willing to buy larger bundles. Don’t be fooled by third-party websites offering them, either, as they may not be trustworthy.
There may, however, be some good news. During holiday events, players can sometimes find Mystery Boxes on the Blood Web. One of the possible prizes in these Mystery Boxes is small batches of Auric Cells. Additionally, the premium path on the Void Pass may occasionally give a small return on investment. The drawback to that, of course, is the requirement of making the initial investment, and you have to be sure to play Dead by Daylight enough to complete the pass.
Final Thoughts
As a premium currency, players really can live without Auric Cells. If you play enough to want to customize your character, though, they’re actually pretty affordable. Also, players get a discount when buying an entire outfit with the premium currency, which is not true of purchasing using Iridescent Shards. Players are also better off buying entire chapters over buying characters with Auric Cells, as the price generally ends up $3-4 cheaper, and older DLC often goes on sale. And if Dead by Daylight teaches us anything, it’s that we need to use our resources wisely if we want to survive the fog.
