Dead by Daylight Patch 8.0.0: What to Expect

Dead by Daylight is gearing up for its 8th anniversary. Despite many referring to games such as VHS, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Prop Hunt as “Dead by Daylight Killers,” DBD has been able to outlast or outperform them all. While one should not celebrate some of these games no longer being playable, one can still appreciate Dead by Daylight’s longevity.

With the anniversary quickly coming patch 8.0.0 is headed to PC and all consoles on June 3rd. With it, a variety of changes are coming to killers, perks, a problematic map, and the addition of a killer and survivor. Let us see what the new patch has in store.

Dead by Daylight’s Anniversary

While the actual anniversary is not until June 14th, the celebration begins for players as Dead by Daylight invades the world of Dungeons and Dragons. Those who enjoyed the PTB have already been able to try out Vecna and Aestri Yazar. With the new patch comes the release of these characters.

Vecna, known in the game as The Lich, will be changed slightly compared to his time in PTB. Players felt The Lich was weak as a killer. While players could cast various spells to hinder or damage survivors, the cooldown for these spells was too long. Spell cooldown will be changed from 50 seconds to 38 seconds.

His spells also received a buff. The Lich’s Fly spell lasts 4 seconds and offers collision with survivors as the spell ends. The spawn time for Flight of the Damned has been trimmed to 0.5 seconds and the projectile speed of said spell has been increased to 9m/s. The Mage Hand’s time to lift pallets has also been decreased while The Liche’s movement speed increased while recovering from casting said spell.

Dead by Daylight’s Reddest Map Changed

Decimated Borgo has been one of the least-liked maps for killer players since its release. Killers must track down victims by recognizing red scratch marks left by survivor players. Blood stains left by injured survivors make tracking easier. Auras shine bright red for the perks that allow killers to see survivors.

The problem with the Borgo is the entire map is various shades of red. The skyline, the ground, and the general ambiance are red. This makes tracking down survivors more difficult as the blood, scratch marks, and auras can be lost in a haze of the stage’s color scheme. This becomes more problematic for color-blind players.

BHVR is fixing this problem by changing the color scheme of the Decimated Borgo. The team is changing things closer to a dark greenish blue like the newest map, Forgotten Ruins. This will be a welcome change for survivors and killers alike.

Changes to Killers, Perks, and Add-Ons

BHVR has been various killers in recent patches to make them more balanced and fun to play as and against. This patch is no different. Expect changes to The Good Guy, The Cannibal, The Blight, and The Deathslinger. One such example is the Hard Hat for The Good Guy. Previously, the add-on caused pallets to break when Chucky scampered under them at the cost of exiting Hidey-Ho. Not after the patch takes effect. The pallet still breaks but Chucky will not exit Hidey-Ho making a more formidable opponent.

Several perks have also received changes in the game‘s update. These changes occurred as some were viewed as too strong or unviable to use in-game. Deadlock’s gen blocking duration has been decreased to 15/20/25. Invocation: Weaving Spider, a perk that allowed survivors to complete generators faster at the permanent cost of being Broken for the rest of the match, will be completed in 60 seconds. Decisive Strike, one of Dead by Daylight’s most divisive survivor perks, had its stun duration lowered to 4 seconds. Five other perks will receive changes.

Toolboxes, which are used to speed generator completion times or sabotage hooks, are receiving a buff to their ability to sabotage. Some toolboxes will be receiving a speed-up of 50%.  The Cutting Wire and Hacksaw add-ons for toolboxes will also get a speed boost. Grip Wrench will now cause hook respawn to take an extra twenty seconds rather than fifteen.

This is a basic gist of the changes coming on June 3rd. Eight years is a long time for an asymmetrical horror to be operational. The game remains relevant with the recent news of Castlevania coming to DBD, 2v8, a Blumhouse movie, The Casting of Frank Stone, and more. Hopefully, Dead by Daylight will be around for another eight years.
