This is Infernus, a damage-over-time-oriented character in Deadlock that does exceptionally well at sustained fights. In this unique build, we center our attention on igniting enemies and maintaining pressure through maximum burn effects, mobility, and crowd control.
Core Playstyle
Infernus excels at constantly placing burn damage onto enemies. You might not hit as hard in terms of burst damage, but your enemies will find it nearly impossible to get out from under your relentless flames.
Mobility & Control: Flame Dash for quickly repositioning and Concussive Combustion for control on the battlefield.
Abilities
Catalyst Primary Ability
Napalm spews forth, slowing enemies, increasing their damage taken from Infernus
Usage: Engage your targets with Catalyst; this slows them and sets them up to more easily take your burn damage. It’s very important for setting up your combo.
Flame Dash Secondary Ability
A fast dash that leaves behind a trail of burning, damaging enemies. One of the most damaging and biggest area denial abilities in Deadlock.
Usage: Flame Dash is used either for mobility to quickly engage or escape a bad position or as a zoning tool to force the enemy into negative positioning.
Afterburn: Passive Ability
Every bullet instills a burning effect, stacking multiple together, which extends the time of the burn.
Usage: Afterburn is the core of your damage. Corroborate it with Catalyst, to amplify the burn effect and keep them under constant fire. Try keeping this effect up on your targets at all times.
Concussive Combustion (Ultimate Ability):
Turns you into a human bomb that explodes after a short delay, stunning all enemies within its area.
Usage: Concussive Combustion is your form of crowd control. Use this in team fights to stun multiples, or mix it with Flame Dash to get in close and surprise opponents with a well-timed explosion.
Ability Order
Afterburn: Max this first for appropriate scaling of your burn damage and ensuring your passive is always on.
Catalyst: Level this up next for superior crowd control and better amplification of damage.
Flame Dash: Invest points into this skill to extend mobility and damage potential.
Concussive Combustion: Level up your ultimate whenever you have the chance because it serves as really good crowd control.
Flame Dash Tactics: You get assured offense and defense with Flame Dash. It’s a pretty versatile tool either for getting away or repositioning during the fight.
Use Your Ultimate at the Right Time: Save Concussive Combustion when you can hit more than one enemy; particularly in team fights, this should be your cue. Combine this well with Flame Dash to surprise opponents and manage the battlefield.
Early-Game Items
Use the following picture to help guide you in purchasing items for your build with Infernus. Pick up Enduring Spirit quickly to keep you sustained on healing. Basic Magazine and Hollow Point Ward will enhance your weapon with more ammo and damage to get you started. Use Infuser before activating your Flame Dash to make it do more damage. Extra Charge is good for giving you another use of Catalyst to help you keep your enemies slowed more often. To increase movement speed buy Sprint Boots.
Mid-Game 1250 Soul Items
First, grab Spirit Lifesteal to keep Infernus sustained in the lane longer and in team fights. Then get Soul Shredder Bullets to apply a debuff to your targets that increases spirit damage. Enduring Speed will keep you gliding around the map quickly. Reactive Barrier is a very good item in Deadlock, needed to help shield you when you get crowd-controlled by enemy players.
To reduce healing on enemy players snag Healbane. Increase your duration on your Flame Dash with Duration Extender. Improved Cooldown will help Infernus lower the cooldown on his ultimate and Flame Dash. Finally, get Suppressor to lower the fire rate of enemy player weapons while you do spirit damage to them.
Mid-Game 3000 Soul Items
To protect Infernus you can grab optional defense items such as Improved Bullet Armor or Improved Spirit Armor. The choice of one of the defense items is based on the enemy team’s arsenal. Grabbing Mystic Slow will help you keep enemies slowed while running through them and setting them on fire. Rapid Recharge will give more uses of your Catalyst ability. To make your Flame Dash last longer purchase Superior Duration. If you like to use your ultimate more often then buy Superior Cooldown and slap that on it.
Warp Stone and Metal Skin are excellent utility choices in Deadlock for Infernus because you can use Warp Stone to jump into and catch targets off guard or use it as an escape. Metal Skin can save you in a team fight if timed correctly; it will protect you from bullet and melee attacks.
End-Game Items
Lastly, you will want to purchase Spiritual Overflow; it will give you spiritual lifesteal and cooldown reduction. This item will also give you spirit power for more damage just by shooting opponents. Another must-have to keep you alive in big fights in the late game is Leech. Infernus will be spreading fire and as enemies burn you will be healing in its wake
Final Thoughts
Infernus is all about playing that long game. With sustained damage and smart positioning, you’ll overwhelm your enemies with sets of burning damage and crowd control. Practice your combos, and soon you will be a flaming force of inferno that no one will dare touch.
