With the launch of The Final Shape expansion in Destiny 2, Bungie has reworked the Xur Vendor. With this rework, Strange Coins have made a return as they used to be a currency in the original Destiny game. These are now the currencies that are used at the Xur vendor. They have recently risen in popularity thanks to Xur being able to sell Exotic Class Items now which are extremely desired for the Prismatic Subclass. This article will go over the best way to farm Strange Coins.
How to Farm
Strange Coins drop from the end of various activities completed in Destiny 2. These activities include Gambit, Vanguard Ops including Strikes, Nightfalls, and Grandmaster Nightfalls. All PvP activities including the Crucible playlist, Trials of Osiris, and Competitive also reward with these Coins. Onslaught is another activity and completing 10 waves in it also rewards Coins. Here is the amount of Coins finishing each activity provides:
- Crucible: 2 Strange Coins for a loss, 3 for a win. This is the same for Trials of Osiris and Competitive.
- Gambit: is treated just like Crucible with 2 Coins for a loss and 3 for a win.
- Onslaught: Every 10 waves of this activity drops Coins that range from 2 to 6. This means that completing all 50 waves of Onslaught has a chance of rewarding 20 Coins.
- Strike: Each completion of this activity provides about 4 Coins.
- Nightfalls: Nightfalls offer varying amounts of Coins. Advanced has a chance of awarding 5 to 8. 8 to 11 for Expert. 9 to 12 for Masters. 10 to 13 for a Grandmaster Nightfall.
Nightfalls are the best way to farm for Strange Coins provided a shorter one is in the rotation. A Nightfall that takes about 20 minutes is not efficient at all but those which can be done in under 10 are the best way to farm for these materials.
However, during certain weeks Bungie applies a modifier to a certain activity that doubles the amount of loot you get from completing these. When this modifier is active, the best farm for Strange Coins is to play those activities. It is important to note that a player can hold only 99 of these materials, so make sure to spend it once you are at capacity.
Favor of the Nine
Every week when Xur appears in the Tower, he sells an item which is titled Favor of the Nine. This item allows that whenever a player earns a Strange Coin he has a chance to receive another Strange Coin. Essentially doubling the amount, a player earns. This Favor can be acquired once players have spent about 40 Coins at the vendor in a given week. So make sure that when eligible you pick it up.
