Digimon Story Time Stranger was announced at the State of Play tonight and along with it came a ton of new trailers and new games to be excited for one of which, has not had a game made for 5 years. Digimon Story Time Stranger has been announced and well… it looks interesting. But it’s another Digimon game, so I’ll take it!
New Game, Same World
Digimon Story Time Stranger has been announced and if you want it or not, it’s here. We are taken back to a familiar place, as if we were once again in Tokyo, Japan. Why is it familiar? Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker’s Memory both took place in the same area.
Cyber Sleuth and Hacker’s Memory were both created in 2015 and 2017, respectively. Both are underrated even for the simplicity of their gameplay. These games seem to follow each other, what happens in one, happens in the other. Hacker Memory is evident as the main character from Cyber Sleuth shows up every now and then as they cross paths. So maybe we will cross paths with the Sleuth or Hacker, maybe both, as the trailer speaks about parallel worlds and time.
The trailer for Digimon Story Time Stranger shows different worlds and catastrophic events that both obliterate an apocalyptic world. It talks about changing the future and preventing the said apocalypse. Worlds are shown that can be considered the Digital World, as it has shown vast environments in the show and games. The Trailer makes a cut to what would be assumed the protagonists glitching on the screen.
While Digimon floods Tokyo we see a bit of exploration, showing the city we knew in the previous games. Then it cuts back to the protagonist glitching out again while holding a gun. We are shown different digital environments where the protagonist is seen riding a Garurumon, and eventually, what seems like gameplay that looks oddly similar to a certain IP, while we don’t know for sure yet, it is safer to just say it is bad camera angles.
Final Thoughts
While we don’t know a lot about Digimon Story Time Stranger it’s nice to see Digimon return with a new game. I was a big fan of their Cyber Sleuth and Hacker’s Memory Both have underrated stories and designs since they allowed you to obtain Digimon’s you might be familiar with from the shows or other games. However, while I am not against another title, I hope this can bring in a fresh look at the game and show some progress that the team is evolving, and not just the Digimon.
