Disney’s Fortnite Project Reportedly Achieves a Major Breakthrough

Disney x Fortnite

Disney’s Fortnite project was announced around one year ago. The two are no strangers to collaborations. Many characters from Marvel, Disney, Pixar, and Star Wars have already appeared in the popular battle royale. However, the House of Mouse wants not just to be a one-time event. They want to have their own game. Any time something of this magnitude is announced, we have to take it with a grain of salt. However, a recent report revealed the project has reached a major milestone.

Fortnite insider HYPEX posted an update as the one-year anniversary of the announcement approaches. The account stated the studio had moved the collaboration with Disney into the “stable” build/branch of development. This may not seem like a huge deal but for a project of this size, it is. This update tells us the studio has done significant work, and the chances of this project getting released have significantly increased.

They better hope this project gets off the ground. The company has reportedly spent around $1.5 billion so far on the collaboration. This isn’t out of the ordinary for the company. Since shutting down the Disney Interactive arm of the company, they have outsourced the making of video games to other studios. This would be the biggest one yet. While it is great to hear the collab is going well, they have still failed to answer the most important question: What are they working on?

What Are They Working On?

Head of Parks and Experiences Josh D’Amaro spoke recently about the collaboration. He kept it very general but did provide some insights into the essence of the project. They want a universe where all of their characters and universes can have a home.

“They can come to life in different forms, [like] games. They can come to life in ways that you can just interact with and play with the franchise in a way that’s meaningful to you–a place where you can actually build. And we think that this is going to be a place where all fans can come and interact 365 days a year.”

People often forget that Fortnite offers more than just battle royale. They have plenty of other games which have been showcased over the past few years. Hardcore fans are hoping for a virtual parks experience. This has been tried in many different ways, but none of them have stuck. The studio likely doesn’t want to confine it to one thing. A virtual theme park experience would be great, but Disney wants the possibilities to be limitless. Whatever they are planning, it is going to be unlike anything we’ve ever seen.

Final Thoughts

As a massive fan of everything Disney, this is very exciting news. Hopefully, this signals an update coming soon, possibly with more details on exactly what type of game is being cooked up. 2025 is already shaping up to be an awesome year for video games. Will we get a look behind the curtain soon at what these two studios are working on? We’ll have to wait and see.
