Tac Shotgun’s Nightmare: Double Pump Returns in Fortnite OG

Fortnite OG Double Pump

The double pump method was a short-lived but wildly effective strategy in the early days of Fortnite. Players would carry not one but two pump shotguns. After shooting with one, instead of waiting for the short cooldown, they would swap to another shotgun. If done properly, that would eliminate an opponent in virtually no time even with a lower rarity gun. That trick was eventually patched, but it’s coming back now. Once Fortnite OG drops in December, the classic pump shotgun method will be back as well.

Fortnite OG to Bring Back Double Pump Method

After a massive surge of players for the Fortnite OG season last year, Epic Games eventually made the decision to bring back the old map, guns, graphics, and everything else in a permanent sense. OG will be its own separate game mode, and it’s likely to be a popular one. As if to enhance that popularity, a long-dormant tactic is being revived: the double pump. Fortnite confirmed this in a tweet.

The double pump eventually became a little bit overpowered. The pump itself is capable of dealing a lot of damage in one shot, but adding another to it effectively doubles it. A headshot even with a green pump dealt a ton of damage, so immediately firing it a second time is almost impossible to defend. Nevertheless, it’s something so many players miss, and it’s coming back soon. Fortnite’s tweet said it was coming back in OG, so it’s very probable that the normal Battle Royale or Zero Build mode will not reintroduce this mechanic. However, that remains to be seen. Check back December 6 once the mode is live and then we will know for sure.

Why I’m Scared of the Double Pump

I am a self-proclaimed tactical shotgun user. I have never liked the pump shotgun or any version of it. I will always take the alternative, though I am a big fan of the Heavy Shotgun as well. Yes, this is because my aim is bad. I’m a controller player and not one that has even decent aim. I need to be able to fire off a ton of shots in a short amount of time in those tense situations, and the pump has never been for me. I won’t, as a result, be using the double pump method because I don’t want to waste a valuable inventory slot on something I won’t/can’t use.

On the other side, I am well aware that everyone will use it, which scares me. I am a build-mode player and always have been. However, I never have excelled at building and sometimes forget it’s an option. It is somewhat advantageous to not build much when an opponent is spending two minutes building the Taj Mahal in front of me.

That is not advantageous when it comes to keeping opponents away, however, which leaves me extremely susceptible to being pumped twice and my game coming to an end. I know it’s my fault, but I’m fearful nonetheless. The original tactical shotgun is a favorite of mine, and I will have to get really good with it again to survive next month.

In Conclusion

After about five or six years, Fortnite OG is back permanently. It’s been that long or longer since the double pump technique was a viable, active part of the game. It was, as painful as this may be to admit, a huge part of the game back then, though, so it’s only right that it returns now. I only hope I can withstand it long enough to enjoy my favorite (by far) era of the game coming back once again.
