Are you seeking a fiery new member for your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island? Drago may resemble a dragon, but he doesn’t act like one. The Animal Crossing series is well-known for its large ensemble of characters, with villagers playing a particularly central role in daily island life. Villagers enhance your gameplay experience by offering tasks and opportunities for friendship. This guide tells you all you need to know about Drago, one of these villagers.
Who is Drago?
Drago is a fern-green alligator introduced in New Leaf for the Nintendo 3DS. Alligators are unique as they are the only reptilian species in the game that can be villagers. His lazy personality makes him laid-back in conversation and obsessive about food. The villager shares his personality with fellow gator Alfonso. Roswell previously had the lazy personality type as well, but this was changed to smug with his reintroduction to the series in the 2.0 Update for New Horizons. Drago’s birthday is on February 12, making him an Aquarius. Like certain other villagers, he has the nature hobby, meaning he will examine fossils and insects while reading books.
As his name and appearance suggest, the design is meant to evoke an Eastern-style dragon. His initial catchphrase “burrrn” plays into the stereotypical fire-breathing lizard motif. Likewise, his Japanese name, Tatsuo, derives from the Japanese “tatsu,” a word that translates to dragon. His initial clothing is the Dragon Suit, in case the connection wasn’t already clear. His house features a sea horse model, which is fitting because the Japanese word for seahorse is translated as tatsu no otoshigo, which loosely means “bast**d dragon child.” Now that you know about this villager, here’s how you can make him a resident of your island community.
How to Get Drago
Recruiting the lazy alligator to your island may be a feat fit for a knight. One method used to obtain him is the island’s campsite. Occasionally, your campsite will host a villager, allowing you to play games with them and ask them to join your community. However, the camper chosen is randomized, and the odds of finding Drago specifically are low. You could also invite him to the campsite directly using his Amiibo card. You can scan the card using the Nookstop terminal in Resident Services and request he stay at the campsite. Unlike the previous method, this will require several days of effort as campers invited via Amiibos will not immediately ask to move onto your island.
Mystery Island Tours are another means of finding our elusive gator pal. These tours can be initiated at the airport by using Nook Miles Tickets. Keep in mind that, like the campsite, the odds of finding Drago will be low given the size of the roster of villagers. You may burn through a large amount of tickets before discovering him. Perhaps the easiest way to acquire him is through another player, thanks to New Horizons’ online capabilities. Villagers will occasionally express their desire to move out of their current home and head elsewhere. When they are packed in boxes, another player can visit and ask them to migrate to their island.
No Need for Saint George Here
Drago may look vicious, but you may find him rather sweet, if somewhat erratic. Lazy villagers as a whole can be hit or miss for players. While they tend to be lethargic and relaxed, conversations with them can border on strange. They periodically break the 4th wall in dialogue, making them amusing companions to some. It should be noted that Drago is a rather popular character and often ranks highly in villager polls. You may need to proffer something worthwhile in exchange for this unique-looking character. If you are successful, you will end up with a food-obsessed, knockoff dragon more interested in sharing snacks than hoarding gold.
