According to the most recent news and updates, the late Akira Toriyama’s upcoming anime, Dragon Ball Daima, and the accompanying video game, Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, will officially be released on the same day, October 11, 2024.
Double Release Date of Dragon Ball
Although the news of the anime’s launch is exciting, it’s hardly surprising as early suggestions had already predicted a Fall release date. Yet, even with this news, there’s a downside as the show will be available exclusively on Fuji TV in Japan, which means Dragon Ball fans outside Japan will have to wait for further news of a possible Western release. Hopefully, an announcement of an international release date will be provided before its Japanese debut next month.
Not only will October 11th be a day of celebration for Dragon Ball anime fans, but its gaming audience will be given a special treat as well. Additionally, the new Dragon Ball video game, Sparking! ZERO will officially drop on various game systems simultaneously with the anime. Ultimately, the game revives the gameplay mechanics of the popular Budokai Tenkaichi saga, which includes an impressive roster of up to 165 fighters.

Considered the highly-anticipated Budokai Tenkaichi 4, Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO will be officially released ending the franchise’s 16-year hiatus. To ensure the game remains the authenticity of the former Budokai Tenkaichi series, Sparking! ZERO’s developer connected with the previous Dragon Ball developer, Spike Chunsoft. Moreover, this new entry gained fan interest by also introducing new advanced features to give this 3D arena brawler enhanced visuals and smoother gameplay.
Before his passing, Toriyama had completed the story for the upcoming Dragon Ball Daima, which revives Goku’s iconic fighting spirit. Similar to Dragon Ball GT, this series will see the return of kid Goku along with the kidlike forms of other main characters such as Vegeta, Piccolo, and Krillan. More than that, the anime will take place in the Demon Realm, becoming the first show to explore this location since its speculation in the Buu saga.
Similarly, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has dropped various updates and release trailers during its promotional run over the past few months. The fighting game’s latest official trailer highlights the Maja Buu saga, revealing the iconic cast of characters and locations set to appear. Ultimately, Dragon Ball fans can choose from a list of great characters including Adult Gohan, evil Majin Buu, and his various Super Buu forms like Kid Buu to fight in the battle arenas.

Unfortunately, the recent news didn’t provide any updates on its other popular anime, Dragon Ball Super. So far, the only updates Toei Animation has given surrounding Super’s production was when they announced its hiatus following Akira Toriyama’s death in March. Although the year started on a sad note for Dragon Ball fans, Toei Animation has plenty of content to satisfy fans everywhere while honoring the legacy of Akira Toriyama.
