Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is an upcoming action fighting game set in the Dragon Ball universe and is the latest game in Dragon Ball: Budokai Tenkaichi series. The game was first announced on December 7, 2023, causing an uproar among the Dragon Ball fanbase about this new game. Budokai Tenkaichi is a beloved series in the Dragon Ball franchise for it’s excellent gameplay and addictive replay value, Sparking! ZERO is looking to be one of the most anticipated games of 2024. Here’s what the latest in Dragon Ball news.
Familiar Faces Return
Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO has seen a massive wave of fighters added to the vast roster for the game. Bandai Namco has recently released a new trailer for the game of more characters being added to the game. King Cold and Mecha Freiza make a suprising return to Dragon Ball after a canonical one off appearence at the beginning of the Cell Saga.
It will be interesting to see what movesets these characters will have since their last playable debute in Budokai Tenkaichi 3. Future Trunks makes his return as well bringing in his sword into battle. He will primarily have sword techniques mixed with his martial arts seen throughout the series.
The Androids Rise Again
All androids introduced during the Cell Saga make a return to Sparking Zero. Android 19 and Andriod 20 AKA Dr. Gero are back deadlier than ever, making them formiable opponents like in the anime and previous games. The Android trio (16, 17, and 18) are also with their movesets matching identical to their anime counterparts. Finally there is Cell in all of his four forms. He can transform into them by absorbing Android 17 and 18 according to the trailer. They could also be separate characters in the story campaign similar to Budokai Tenkaichi II.
A Warrior’s Spirit Reawakens
Teen Gohan will be the shining hero with his Super Saiyan 1 and 2 transformations. He’ll fight through a wave of Cell Juniors, who also become playable characters in the game. Along with his speedy moveset is the one-handed Kamehameha. It’s awesome to see one of the most iconic fights recreated in its modern glory for newcomers and veterans to experience again. With all these characters added and with only a few more spots left on the roster before the official release, there is much anticipation for who will be added next.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is only two months away from release, it’s set to be the most anticipated Dragon Ball game to date. Not only from the massive roster of characters, but also the graphics, presentation, multiplayer value, and most importantly, the ability to create What If scenarios. Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is available for pre-order on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, what could the final characters be for the game? Only time will tell.
