Dragon Ball: Sparkling ZERO Allows Players to Make Their Battles

Sparkling Zero Caulifia

Fans are awaiting the release of the heavily anticipated DragonBall: Sparkling Zero, a game that calls back to the beloved Buddakai Tenkaichi Series. Upon rumors of this game’s development, fans were skeptical that it would be rinse, wash, and repeat regarding the gameplay and story mode. Only this time it’s much different. The story mode will feature branching paths that allow players to switch characters during specific scenes that can lead to a different outcome in battle and the game’s story. However, that’s not the game mode that excites fans the most.

During the Sparkling ZERO reveal trailer, one feature of the game showed us a glimpse of a brand-new mode translated as Edit Mode in Japanese, and Custom Battle in English. This feature will allow the players to create cutscenes, insert unique dialogue, alter the background music, change screen effects, slow-motion effects, and much more. This feature has never been done in the Dragonball game series, as the concept is very similar to the Super Mario Maker games.  So what exactly can we expect to see in this brand-new game mode? We were only shown the tip of the iceberg. Let’s take a look at some of the finer details that have even the most casual gamers and fans excited.

Changeable Scenery, Poses, and Camera Angles.

The amount of things you can change in scenarios and cutscenes is overwhelming. You can place characters wherever you like in scenes, and decide their exact movements from subtle poses to evasions to jumping into action in various ways. Players can choose what camera angles are used and the speeds at which characters change stances, go into powering up animation, or any other action. Framerates can be sped up or slowed down to add dramatic effect as well.

There’s also the option to choose how many characters you want in each scene. It’s been speculated that you can have up to ten characters in any particular scene. You can edit in favorite non-fighting characters like Bulma, ChiChi, or Yamcha. Even Shenron can be added. Teams can be 2 vs 2, 1 vs 3, 5 vs 5, or even 3 vs 10. Sparkling ZERO allows you

The location and setting are also changeable in Sparkling ZERO, as you can fight at almost any location from the DragonBall series. Have crowds of people watch your fight in an arena, Planet Namek, or the hyperbolic time chamber. For adding even more dramatic effects, players can edit the weather or day and night cycles.  This allows players to set the tone for any kind of scenario they want to make. Set a humorous stage for discourse on a sunny day at Kame House, or have Freiza boast about humanity’s demise to Goku in an apocalyptic environment on Earth. You even have the option to set ring-outs or a time limit.

Create Episode Titles and Edit Dialogue to Create a Story

Before starting a fight in Sparkling ZERO, you can create a title that’s exactly like the ones you see in the anime introduction with the dragon balls displayed. In each scene, players can choose from over 5000 lines of recorded dialogue and each line is fully voice-acted. Character names can be swapped in and out of text regardless of whether they are present to participate in battle or spectate, allowing for random name drops to occur.

All these features and tools in Sparkling ZERO allow players to essentially create their own Dragon Ball story and even give it a vibe that resembles other anime, only with DragonBall Characters. You can make the story how you see fit and even share it online, or play other people’s stories. We haven’t even made it to the best parts.

Trigger Conditions, Side Effects, and Boss Battles

DragonBall is a show well-renowned for its stubborn characters who are always “only just getting started” and refuse to go down after taking a beating. Sparkling ZERO (Like its predecessor, Tenkaichi) has trigger conditions to complement this theme, allowing the fight to carry on as long as you see fit. You can decide at which point a character regains full health or kii during the fight (or loses it). There’s also the option to have characters transform or acquire certain buffs to turn the tide of battle during a mid-battle cutscene. After nearly defeating one character, you can edit in a scene where a different character jumps in to save them or tag them out.

Trigger conditions activate when certain events happen. For example, Goku can bring Frieza down to half health where a cutscene can be edited in with dialogue, “Well, it’s been fun, Goku. But I really grow tired of these games, so I’m afraid I’ll have to finish you here and now!” and Frieza can then transform. Characters can gain a new super attack or ultimate move in the middle of the fight and can regain stats such as health and kii or lose them.

Over 50 different side effects can also be placed at any point, and they can trigger at any time based on meeting whatever condition you choose. This includes before or after a set time limit, after special moves, or after another character is defeated where another takes his or her place. As far as we know, these effects include buffs and debuffs, slower or faster speeds, lowered defence, and so on. There are almost endless possibilities for the player to create long-lasting boss battles or waves of enemies without using mods and you can share them with other players online.

The new DragonBall: Sparkling ZERO game will feature a new game mode called Custom Battle, which allows players to create their own scenarios with cutscenes, dialogue, and trigger mechanics. A game mode like this has never before been introduced in past DragonBall games and fans can look forward to creating their own unique stories within the DragonBall universe at any point in the story. Discussions about the endless possibilities are taking off all across social media. Fans are entertaining the thought of YouTubers and streamers creating the most absurd scenes or impossible battle scenarios that set them against all the odds. Dragon Ball: Sparkling ZERO will be released on October 11, 2024.
