LCK Cup 2026 Match Review: Gen.G Slams DRX’s Hope

DRX had a mountain to climb in their first LCK Cup match. Gen.G Esports was the LCK champion last year, and they retained the same roster. After Group Baron lost both of their matches, Gen.G aimed to get a point on the board. Game one started slow for the LCK champions as DRX emerged on top. Ultimately, Gen.G proved they were too strong for DRX. They closed out the series 2-0 with a dominant second game that saw Ruler ascend on Ezreal.

Game One Summary

Willer is the starting jungler for DRX. DRX found early advantages against Gen.G. Through the combination of Andil and Willer, they put pressure on Canyon. That pressure caused him to greed for raptors and die. However, Chovy woke up and paved a road. It seemed like Gen.G had a chokehold on the game until Andil pulled off an incredible play. Rich ended up with four kills, putting him in a strong position in the game. DRX killed Chovy in the top lane to set up a Baron take. They secured the objective, but went negative on the Baron powerplay. Gen.G decided the game was over as they dominated the final teamfight.

Every fight went in favor of Gen.G as the gold lead continued to grow. The writing was on the wall for game two. More gold went towards Gen.G as they outplayed DRX at every turn. DRX had moments in the first game to take the fight to Gen.G. Willer, especially had a significant impact on Xin Zhao. His engagements with Ucal’s Shockwave gave DRX a chance to stabilize. However, despite securing the Baron, DRX could not take advantage of the objective. Gen.G neutralized the gold lead and won the final fight.

Gen.G were too far ahead in the second game. After Ruler and Duro secured a 2v2 kill, the lead continued to grow. Every lane, except for the top lane, had a significant lead. Kiin got solo-killed by Rich in a matchup that he should never have died in. Credit must go to Rich for his performance in game two. However, playing Sion with a losing team means there is little he can do to help.
