2024’s Echoes of Wisdom Needs These Legendary Zelda Bosses

Zelda bosses for Echoes of Wisdom

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is expected to change quite a bit about the franchise, but it should bring back classic Zelda bosses. It’s a return to the 2D top-down formula that hasn’t been used in over a decade. It’s also going to allow players to play as Princess Zelda (and Link in some moments). What it is more than likely not going to do is redefine the gameplay. The trailer implies the existence of dungeons, and with those dungeons, there will be a plethora of both minibosses and bosses to take on. Here’s which ones should play a part in this story.

Bosses Echoes of Wisdom Needs to Bring Back

Honorable Mentions

It would be really cool to see a whole host of Zelda bosses return in the upcoming game. Not all of them can, but some honorable mentions include Big Green Chuchu, Phantom Ganon, Queen Gibdo, Tentalus, Magmanos, King Dodongo, Twinmold, and Gleeok. These are all iconic bosses in their own right, but they probably won’t all make it back to Echoes of Wisdom.

Dark Link

Some of the best games out there have Dark Link as an antagonist, but he would be perfect as one of the Zelda bosses for Echoes of Wisdom. Princess Zelda and Link have a relationship, one that is sometimes romantic. From a narrative purpose, it makes so much sense to have one of the dungeons manned by Dark Link. It would create such a unique conflict and turn the Dark Link gameplay on its head. Usually, this enemy mirrors Link, but it wouldn’t be able to since Link will not be fighting him. On that note, perhaps the arrival of Dark Zelda is due as well.

Gohma

Gohma has been in a lot of different games, including the original, Skyward Sword, Link’s Awakening, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Those are both 2D and 3D games, which means Gohma can do it all. This spider-like boss has fought so many Zelda players over the years and has proven to be a fun and challenging boss for dungeons. It only makes sense for the boss to come back. It was featured in the remake of Link’s Awakening, which is in the same art style as Echoes of Wisdom. There’s really no reason not to let one of the most popular Zelda bosses recur one more time.

Ganondorf

Not every single game in the Zelda franchise has had Ganondorf as a final boss, but most of them do. Vaati and Demise have taken the mantle from him sometimes, but most of the 29 games have seen Ganon or some form of his fight Link. This is in keeping with the loose thread that connects all these stories. While this story will flip that thread on its head with the effective removal of Link, it should still bring Ganondorf back to be the final boss.

The trailer shows Ganon being pulled into the same rift that claims Link at the very beginning. This could and should be a red herring or a mistake, as Ganondorf should be behind it all, though he can get help from other bosses if necessary. This one is a long shot since Ganon is clearly unwittingly taken into the rift, but someone has to be the final boss and there just aren’t that many options otherwise.
