Echoes of Wisdom Soundtrack is the Perfect 2024 Addition

Echoes of Wisdom soundtrack

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom soundtrack might not be as eye-catching (or ear-catching) as some games in the franchise, but it is every bit as good. It doesn’t have the grand cinematic nature of Twilight Princess, the sheer impressive size of Tears of the Kingdom, or the iconic and original essence of Ocarina of Time. What it does have is a really strong blend of new and old that perfectly fits with the style and aesthetic of the game.

Echoes of Wisdom Soundtrack Helps Carry the Game

Most titles in the Zelda line do not need any help. They are great games for a wide variety of reasons, and even if the excellent music was removed, they’d still be a lot of fun. However, adding quality music to anything is always a good idea. A thrilling film score only serves to make a good movie great. The same is true for video games and the Echoes of Wisdom soundtrack is evidence of that.

There’s a lot of newness in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. There’s a new protagonist, a new alternate world to Hyrule, and some new NPCs and enemies. That necessitates some new music, which is where soundtrack director Hajime Wakai stepped in. His new tunes are some of the most enjoyable in the game, whether it’s the final traversal music of the Still World to get to Echo Zelda and face Null or the Jabul Waters theme.

Music Continues Blending Zelda Eras

As with every single Zelda game, there are some familiar tunes. Hajime Wakai has worked on the franchise before, most notably doing the music for Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom. He knows what “Zelda music” constitutes, but he also knows how to make it unique. Players who play will notice that several pieces of the Echoes of Wisdom soundtrack are reworked versions of older songs.

For example, there is a Hyrule Field theme in almost every single game ranging from Ocarina of Time to Twilight Princess. They’re kind of similar most of the time. Each game, especially those with a focus on the titular princess, has a Zelda theme, which is often a rendition of Zelda’s Lullaby. In Echoes of Wisdom, Wakai merges the two, and as the game progresses, Zelda’s Lullaby shines through that theme. It’s just one excellent example of how Wakai uses Koji Kondo’s tunes to perfection in 2024.

In Conclusion

What Hajime Wakai has done with the latest soundtrack is excellent. While these tracks may not stand the test of time and enter that sacred upper echelon, they perfectly serve the game in which they’re played. The older tracks are brought back but with a more whimsical and child-like lens to match the theme of Echoes of Wisdom. The new ones are quality additions that help immerse players in this version of Hyrule. It all stands to once again prove that The Legend of Zelda is virtually unrivaled when it comes to video game soundtracks.
