Every year leading up to Minecraft Live, a livestream hosted by the developers of Minecraft, fans and content creators theorize about the long-awaited End update. The End is a dimension in Minecraft and is the home of the final boss, the Ender Dragon. This dimension’s barren- and quite frankly boring- landscape leaves much to be desired. Like clockwork every year, anticipation for an End update soars, but to no avail. However, this year has the potential to be different, and fans may finally see the long-awaited End update.
Minecraft’s End Dimension Needs An Overhaul
Update 1.9 ‘The Combat Update’ touched on the End with the addition of the outer islands, End Cities, and the Elytra. These features, especially the Elytra, have changed how Minecraft is played. However, that update was nearly 10 years ago. Update 1.16 ‘The Nether Update’ completely revamped the Nether dimension with new biomes, generation, and mobs. Ever since then, requests for an End update have skyrocketed. To add onto this, the addition of Update 1.18 ‘Caves and Cliffs Part II’ made the End the only outdated dimension in the game. With how important this dimension is to progression, you’d think it deserves a little love.
Every End Update Hint And Teaser
The most substantial hint we have received thus far (that isn’t a leak) is the collaboration between Minecraft and Minecraft Championship (MCC). As part of Minecraft’s 15th anniversary, the Ender Cup would be rewarded to the winner of the challenge games. This on its own raised some eyebrows, but during the event, another huge hint was dropped. Players were shown a fly-by of every Minecraft update and what it brought. This nostalgic blast to the past was concluded with a series of revamped End islands, structures, and more. As if Mojang’s intentions couldn’t be more obvious!
Another minor hint is the slew of End-related bug fixes and changes. Many bugs related to the End have been implemented in recent snapshots. During ‘Caves and Cliffs’ development, experimental Elytra changes were also implemented. It would make sense for Mojang to want to polish the End before giving it a major overhaul. Recently, Endermen have been showcased in promotional art and teasers quite frequently. Developers have been openly unhappy about the Dragon Egg’s appearance and have plans to change it. Minecraft’s recent April Fools updates have added entirely new dimensions, furthering theories that an End update is coming soon.
Mojang’s design ethic for recent updates has been replayability and support for servers. This was most broadly displayed in Update 1.21 ‘Tricky Trials’. One of the hardest items to get on multiplayer servers is the Elytra. Fans theorize that ‘Tricky Trials’ was a trial for a revamped way to acquire the Elytra. Downloadable content (DLC) for Minecraft Dungeons has introduced new End-themed blocks, structures, and mobs. Sounds from one of the mobs from this DLC, the Endersent, can be heard in Minecraft’s Disc 5. A Minecraft Movie is currently being developed, and word of a new Ender Dragon making her debut in this movie has spread.
The Leaks And Closing Thoughts
On Minecraft’s official website, a post has been released in anticipation of Minecraft Live 2024. This livestream will take place on September 28 at 1 PM EDT. Using the Internet archive on this website will reveal past updates to this page. One update was released early on September 24 seemingly in preparation for after the livestream was over. This archived page uses past-tense language about Minecraft Live 2024. Mentioned on this page is a new biome called the Pale Garden and a ‘Bundles of Bravery’ drop. To many, the Pale Garden sounds like it belongs in the End dimension.
In a post made on the official Minecraft YouTube channel, Vu Bui, the Chief Content Officer at Mojang, talked about the upcoming Livestream. Although no real information was given about the content of the stream, a strange noise can be heard at approximately 42 seconds. This noise is reminiscent of an Enderman’s angry rumble. The Creaking is speculated to be a new End mob coming in this update, and fans have been quick to claim this noise to be this new mob. At the end of this post is a skit where Vu enters into a dark room and drops the camera. This could hint at a more horror-focused update similar to the Deep Dark.
Game leaks should always be taken with a grain of salt. If a leak of a new addition or feature hasn’t been officially added to the game, there is no telling if it will ever be implemented. Leaks acquired through data mining are notoriously frowned upon regardless of how much hype the community will generate. In this case, however, it seems likely that these leaks are legit due to the use of Internet archive websites. The ‘Bundles of Bravery’ drop will include the long-awaited Bundle item, a mini backpack used for inventory management. Bundles will also receive a fresh coat of paint with a new model and dyable options. This update is on track to shake up the franchise forever.
