Evil Dead and Halloween Enters RetroRealms’ Horror Arcade

RetroRealms

Fans of horror are getting a pixelated treat instead of a trick in October. The worlds of Ash vs Evil Dead and Halloween are being transported into the 16-bit land of RetroRealms. Developer Boss Team Games released a trailer for both platformers on August 13. Players will be in for an exciting time as they take the roles of Michael Myers and Ash Williams. Here’s what to know about the double-feature for the upcoming Halloween season.

Saw Through Evil With Ash Williams

In RetroRealms: Ash vs Evil Dead, players will be taken on a gory journey against evil Deadites. Equipped with Ash’s trusty chainsaw and a 12-gauge shotgun, players will slay horrid enemies within the Dark Realm. The goal is to become the savior of humanity and protect it from the dreaded Necronomicon. If players would like to be well-versed in the horror-filled universe this game is set in, they can watch the classic Evil Dead movies. They can also binge the three seasons of the Ash vs Evil Dead show.

Hack And Slash with Michael Myers

Meanwhile, in RetroRealms: Halloween, players will be taking on a much less heroic role. Instead of saving humanity, players will be terrorizing it as The Shape himself, Michael Myers. The game takes place in Myers’ stomping and slicing grounds of Haddonfield, Illinois. The levels in the game take inspiration from the original movie by John Carpenter. Players will get to face off against familiar characters and take on challenges to test their skills as they bring fear to Haddonfield.

Two Games, One World

While the two RetroRealms games are separate, they’re still part of the same world. With every game in the series comes access to the Arcade. It’s a digital hub that gives players the chance to transfer characters between games. These characters are sold separately in DLCs and potential future RetroRealms games.

Along with being able to create these horror mash-ups, players will also be able to see how high other players are scoring. They’ll be able to do this through available leaderboards. This might just give these platformers a competitive edge to the pixelated and gory 16-bit fun that Boss Team Games is bringing.

Exploring the Collector’s Edition

The studio is also bringing a limited-time offer for those really into horror. A special Collector’s Edition is currently available for pre-order. It’s absolutely packed full of extras that fans will enjoy. It comes with a physical copy of RetroRealms: Double Feature, which is a combo deal of both games. This excludes Steam since all copies will be digital. Speaking of digital, the Collector’s Edition also includes two bonus in-game DLCs. They let people play as Laurie Strode from Halloween or Kelly Maxwell from Ash vs Evil Dead. There will also be a digital version of the RetroRealms soundtrack included.

That’s not all though. A bunch of physical goodies are up for grabs too, including a bunch of exclusives. A 12-inch Michael Myers plush, a collectible coin set, trading cards, a faux arcade cabinet box, and more are available for those who choose to shell out extra cash. A special surprise will also be included in every Collector’s Edition. It’s unclear just what that surprise could be.

Conclusion

With both RetroRealms games being released on October 18, they can be used for some good old-fashioned Halloween fun. They’ll also be a good time for fans of the classic kind of platformers who don’t mind a bit of blood. These retro-styled games are still bound to bring a sense of nostalgia for gamers who might miss the simple times in the arcade. They just won’t need a pocket full of quarters to play these games after the initial purchase.
