The newest addition to the Fable games has officially been delayed. As announced in the latest Official Xbox Podcast, the head of Xbox Game Studios, Craig Duncan, announced that the release will now be sometime in 2026. The news comes as a great disappointment to fans of the series and fantasy RPGs in general. However, they have not been left in the dark, as Duncan gave a simple explanation to those who are now waiting even longer.
The Reason for Fable’s Delay
During the Xbox Podcast episode, which premiered on February 25, Duncan explained that the gaming studio giant just wants to give Fable a little more time. However, before making the announcement about the delay, he expressed that he is happy about where Playground Games, the development studio, is. He also said that he’s excited about the progress of the upcoming RPG. Despite the delay, he expressed to the future players of the game that the delay would be well worth the wait.
“While I know that’s not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it’s definitely worth the wait. I have unequivocal confidence in the Playground team. If you think about their history and legacy for Forza Horizon, the last few games, critically acclaimed, 92 Metacritic, award-winning, beautiful, play great,” Duncan stated.
Why the Delay Might Be a Great Thing
Fans who are eagerly awaiting to return to Albion for the first time in many years may have had their dreams delayed a bit. However, the delay could be a great thing in the end. Duncan went on to say that he wanted the community to understand that delays like this one are sometimes the best for the game. Games like Cyberpunk 2077, No Man’s Sky, and Fallout 76 are proof that sometimes more development time is all a game needs to become a great experience.
During the podcast, 50 seconds of Pre-Alpha gameplay were revealed. The small snippet of the gameplay is already looking sharp as it is. If everything goes to plan, the gameplay, story, and visuals might be even better as a result of the delay. Nevertheless, future adventures will just have to wait and see what becomes of this latest addition to a beloved series.
