Tennocon 2024 was filled with spectacular reveals about the future of Warframe. Along with two minor updates later this year, ‘Warframe: 1999’ will drop in Winter 2024, and with it will be the introduction of a brand new faction: The Hex. Within this update are mounds of content ranging from an infested lich boyband to discovering the secrets of the mad scientist, Albrecht Entrati. Two characters, Aurthur and Aoi, were revealed previously during last year’s Tennolive. These Protoframes were shown to be members of this new faction coming to Warframe. Today, we’ll deep dive into The Hex and discover their role in the cyberpunk-esque city of Höllvania.
The Hex
The Hex consists of six Protoframes who reside in an abandoned mall complex. Arthur Nightingale, The Hex leader and part of the Excalibur batch of Protoframes, is regarded as a loose cannon. Even though he has a temper, he proves his strength through his leadership and loyalty to his sister, Eleanor Nightingale. Eleanor, part of the Nyx batch, is the team’s psychonaut and stealth coordinator. Albrecht Entrati himself regards her as intimidating due to the high levels of the Technocyte virus within her. This opens her up to potential mutations and outbursts. Revealed during last year’s Tennocon, Aoi Morohoshi (Mag batch) is second in command of The Hex. It is unclear whether Aoi and Arthur have a romantic history.
Quincy Isaacs (Cyte-09 batch) takes issue with Arthur’s leadership. He serves as the sharpshooter and gunsmith of The Hex, although his superiority and stuck-up attitude raise tensions. Arthur is known to have a plan to subdue Quincy if he ever decides to defect. Another member of The Hex who stays emotionally distant from the rest is Leticia Garcia, also known as Lettie. As part of the Trinity batch, she serves as the medic and is shown to be caring for a colony of rats. She is wary of Eleanor for unknown reasons. Rounding out the last of the starter frames with Volt is Amir Beckett, the lead technician and electronics specialist. He is implied to have ADHD as he is profiled as always fidgeting and occasionally entering moments of extreme focus.
Secret Messages Uncover Truth Of Höllvania
Building up to Tennocon 2024, Digital Extremes released a series of chatlogs that detail the horrors of Höllvania. A chatter named Letterbomb lets the group know of a man who claims to have the cure to the infestation. This man is Albrecht Entrati, and it is later revealed that the “cure” was simply experiments performed on humans to transform them into Protoframes. With Eleanor being on watch due to high exposure to the Technocyte, it is unclear if this cure is a placebo or if it was made purely to gain access to their minds for the Vessels. The Scaldra, a military faction and one of the main antagonists of ‘Warframe: 1999’, presumably captured or killed Letterbomb to keep Albrecht’s cure a secret.
Also appearing in these chatlogs is Aoi. A user dubbed LordSaberWulf sends a picture of her to the chat, and they ask if anyone has seen their sister. None of the chatters have any information on her- that is until she hacks into the chatroom herself. Aoi tells the group about how the Scaldra have begun monitoring everyone’s chat logs, and she warns them that they may be taken just like Letterbomb if they continue being stagnant. She motivates the group to seek ways out of Scaldra’s iron grip and to fight back. It can be speculated that LordSaberWulf is Scaldra, and they used the family excuse to garner sympathy to track The Hex down.
Romance Blossoms In Warframe: 1999
Hidden chatlogs aren’t the only instant messages featured in this update. Coming in ‘Warframe: 1999’ is a never-before-seen dating minigame where you will build a relationship with any member of The Hex. This minigame will be available from Tenno’s point of view, which means you will have free reign on who you choose to be your 1999 New Year’s kiss. Will you embrace Aoi’s bubbly personality, or do you lean more towards Quincy’s arrogant demeanor? Perhaps the grounded, realist perspective of Lettie is your jam. Regardless of who you decide to woo, this update will be packed with twists that may sway your decision.
‘Warframe: 1999’ will be legendary in terms of content and story beats. The Cavia from Warframe‘s ‘Whispers In The Walls’ update is regarded by fans as the best faction in the game in terms of character personality, growth, and story. However, with the rise of The Hex and their in-depth relationships and lore, the Cavia may have some competition on their plates. The Hex is a perfect example of what Digital Extremes is capable of when it comes to character-building and design, and more details are soon to come in Winter 2024 with the launch of Warframe‘s brand new expansion, ‘Warframe: 1999’.
