Fortnite Making Changes to Battle Passes

Fortnite is making a big change to the exclusivity of their Battle Pass! After Chapter 5 of Season 3 ends, Fortnite is now bringing Battle Pass items to the item shop 18 or more months after the Battle Pass’s expiration date.

The Original Battle Pass

DOTA 2 was the first game to introduce a Battle Pass to gaming. An exclusive season-pass-like system for unique in-game features ranging from cosmetics to special game modes for Battle Pass holders. Fast forward to 2017 when Fortnite introduced their Battle Pass in Season 2 which changed the model forever. Similar to DOTA 2, Fortnite offered tiered rewards through the Battle Pass but changed the game by including their in-game money, V-Bucks, as rewards. This made it so a player was able to earn enough V-Bucks from the pass to be able to get the next one for free.

Starting after Chapter 5 of Season 3, Fortnite will start bringing Battle Pass-exclusive items to the item shop for all players. Previously, players were only able to get the exclusive items by buying the pass and gaining XP to earn items. After its expiration date, the items would live on in the inventory of those who were able to get the season pass when it was released and be the envy of those who weren’t able to snag the Battle Pass for that season.

Exclusivity…At Least For A Bit

This will bring a slight change to the exclusivity of the Battle Pass as Fortnite is releasing the items 18 months or more after its expiration. This means that for at least a year, players will still be able to flaunt their Battle Pass exclusives before other players will find them in their shops. Aside from giving all players a chance to get these items, it also allows players who failed to finish the Battle Pass to have a chance at finding the exclusive items in their shops. Whether it’s a skin, back bling, gliders, or emotes, all items will have a chance of appearing in the item shop along with a variety of alt skins being included.

What About Previous Content?

This is an exciting change that many gamers have seen coming for a while now, however, it’s important to note that this new change will not be bringing back old Battle Pass items from seasons before.  Players will still have to log in every day to check their stores to see if any of the Battle Pass skins are in the item shop. Despite the big change, the Battle Pass will still cost 950 V-Bucks or USD 8.49.
