Gamescom 2024 was packed with some amazing trailers and reveals. FragPunk also revealed its gameplay overview and fans of the genre are excited for it to drop. It is a 5v5 Hero-based First-Person shooter that adds a unique twist by the use of Tactical Card gameplay. In addition to selecting your hero and weapons, players can also pick from a roster of cards that significantly changes the rules of dueling and engagement. Here is what was revealed in the trailer.
Bend Rules with Cards
Cards are what make FragPunk unique and stand out from other competitive games of the genre. Aiming to keep the game fresh and non-repetitive, Bad Guitar Studios allows players to change the rules of the battlefield thanks to the Card mechanics. The Gamescom 2024 trailer revealed some gameplay on it emphasizing that Cards allow players to do anything. They can make the players stronger and even change the environment of the map.
The Cards shown in the trailer featured a Card that can deny healing for the enemy players. A Card that lets you place objectives anywhere on the map. A Card that allows the shots fired to ricochet off surfaces. Cards that can change the weather, allowing it to rain, snow, or even have fog. Players are also able to interact with their teammate to call dibs on Cards or telling them to pickup a certain Card. Developer Bad Guitar Studio took inspiration of the 2000s video game cheatcodes and Steam’s workshop game mods.
Strategy Team-Based Shooter
FragPunk is a team-based shooter and the Card mechanic just adds to the importance of team communication. The second half of the trailer focuses on the teamwork aspect with how different heroes and card combos can complement each other. FragPunk is launching a Closed Beta this October and is releasing with 7 Lancers (Heroes). Each Lancer has a different personality and playstyle. Where some focus on defense and laying out traps, some focus on detection, and some on full frontal assault. These 7 Lancers are Broker, Nitro, Hollowpoint, Kismet, Serket, Corona, and Axon.
Duke It Out In 1v1
Aside from the Card mechanics in FragPunk, Bad Guitar Studio is also introducing a 1v1 mechanic to the game, dosing players with competitive adrenaline. If a game is tied or indecisive on a game’s winner, then every player will be put in another arena, where they will fight in a 1v1.
How it works is that one person from each team will duel against each other. When a person from a specific team dies, another person from that team will be pulled into the arena. There is no healing on kills in this round and whichever team eliminates the other team first wins the match. Overall, FragPunk seems like an amazing 5v5 shooter that players are eager to try once it drops.
