There are many classic games that very few remember, but certain players loved. One of those classic games is getting a remake. Bubble Ghost, which was released on the console in 1990, is getting a modern remake.

Bubble Ghost was originally released on the Atari ST in 1987. It received a port for the Game Boy in 1990, which is when most people discovered the game. In the game, players control a ghost whose job it is to blow a bubble around a haunted house. Many obstacles and traps could pop the bubble, and players had to maneuver around these to keep the bubble intact. The ghost can move freely throughout the level, dealing with the traps like candles and fans.

A remake was announced back in 2023, but fans have not heard much since then. Now, we have a release trailer and date. The aptly named Bubble Ghost remake will be released for Nintendo Switch and PC on March 27 of this year. The original 35 levels will be modernized, and 40 new levels will be added to expand the number of levels for players to take on. It is a unique take on the 2D sidescroller genre and promises a fun, cute adventure for players.

What Can Players Expect?

There’s a little bit more of a story in the remake than in the original Game Boy game. The ghost now has a name! Players will take on the role of long-deceased inventor Heinrich Von Schinker. He has to face off against his past creations as well as plenty of monsters. The trailer gives some looks at different levels. Each seems very unique, offering different challenges to players. It seems to be a mix of outdoor and indoor venues, with some possible traveling through portals. Von Schinker must have been an eccentric inventor!

The art style is adorable, with the monsters looking scary but also adorable at the same time. There even looks to be some boss fights, which will offer a new and exciting challenge. On top of all of this, two new modes will also be dropping. Speedrun and Challenge modes will be added to the remake, giving gamers more ways to play the game. The trailer doesn’t offer any in-game music, which was originally done by Hitoshi Sakamoto, who worked on the Final Fantasy series. Players may have to wait until the release date for that one.
