GameStop Retro Confirmed for Awesome Locations in 2024

GameStop Retro

GameStop Retro is coming. While GameStop as a whole has always had older games available for purchase (typically through the website), they’re truly leaning into the retro side of gaming now in 2024. Throwback gaming has become rather prominent in the modern age for a variety of reasons, and the game retailer has taken to that trend to try and stave off obsoletion. Here’s what you need to know about it.

GameStop Retro Stores Introduced

GameStop Retro is not just going to be an online fad. Instead, the game retailer is going to turn some physical stores into retro game locations. This shift for these stores may or may not be permanent, as the store did not say one way or the other. They also didn’t say how many stores they wanted to turn retro. For now, they’ve made plenty of stores retro, though they may be joined and may not be permanent.

To find a GameStop Retro store, you can use their store locator. If you go to this website, you can put in the zip code and change the distance to see how many stores are in your area and where they are. They may be more common than some might expect. The author does not live in a big city, but there are six Retro stops within 100 miles of the zip code used. In big cities or populated areas, there will probably be plenty of stores to try.

What Retro Stores Will Sell

GameStop does currently have older games available. As mentioned, you could always go in and buy older games on the website. For example, we bought The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess through the site. Much more will be available and it will be in stores. Though not all-inclusive, GameStop Retro will have the following consoles available:

  • Nintendo DS
  • Wii
  • Wii U
  • Super Nintendo Entertainment System
  • Nintendo Entertainment System
  • Nintendo 64
  • Nintendo Gamecube
  • Game Boy
  • Game Boy Advance
  • Play Station
  • PS2 (Play Station 2)
  • PS3 (Play Station 3)
  • PS Vita (PlayStation Vita)
  • SEGA Genesis
  • SEGA Saturn
  • Dreamcast
  • Xbox
  • Xbox 360

Of course, current consoles like the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S are at normal locations as well. Naturally, the stores will have games for these consoles as well. The Retro site advertised Twilight Princess (on the GameCube), Mario Kart Double DashSonic Adventure 2: Battle, Punch Out!! Nintendo Wii, Mario Super Sluggers, Pokemon Yellow, Fallout: New Vegas, Halo 2, and so many more. Unsurprisingly, there are discounts for Pro members.

Conclusion

Retro gaming continues to thrive in 2024. Players seek out old games and old consoles all the time, and the resale market for them is pretty prominent. GameStop is jumping in on the trend and providing an official and theoretically safer way to buy and sell old games. Instead of taking a risk on eBay or something else, GameStop Retro has the games you need. Fortunately, there are plenty of locations to take advantage of this new store format.
