Genshin Impact has been out for almost 4 years since its debut on September 28, 2020. While its reviews are mixed (depending on where you look or play), it seems to be reaching a new audience. As Genshin has been a mobile, PC, and PlayStation game for its lifetime, it is now extending towards Xbox, bringing its open world to the Microsoft-owned console.
What is Genshin Impact?
In case you don’t know what Genshin Impact is; It’s an open-world, adventure, action RPG from a Chinese developer as miHoYo. Its popularity skyrocketed it became a sensation for its characters. You play as one of the twins and go on an adventure to find your twin and gather friends along the way. This is a Gatcha game as well. It’s where you can pull characters in summons and use them as playable characters. It allows you to create builds and go around completing challenges all the while experiencing the story. We also can’t forget Paimon! A mysterious person who travels with us across the worlds of Genshin Impact.
You can travel over several lands of Genshin Impact as you see different lands inspired by different cultures: Fontaine, Inazume, Liyue, Mondstadt, Sumeru, Snezhnaya, and now, Natlan. You can master elements unique to each character, the elements can come from seven different powers: Anemo(Wind), Cryo(Ice), Hydro(Water)0, Pyro(Fire), Geo(Earth), Electro(Thunder/Lighting/Electricity) and Dendro(Land/Grass). Each of these powers can be combined to create devastating effects against your enemies, allowing you to deal strong damage against them and sometimes making them obsolete with how wonderful they combine with each other.
As I said before, Genshin Impact is well known mainly for its cast of characters that are unique not only in powers but in themselves. With these games having a growing world, we can only expect the roster to get bigger. miHoyo announced their 5.0, 4th year anniversary with their new update coming with the launch on the Xbox X/S at Gamescom 2024. It will arrive on the Xbox X/S on November 20th, 2024 with its 5.2 update.
Good thing?
Yes, even though I am mainly a PC player myself, Genshin’s arrival on Xbox will be a wonderful advancement for the console. Hoyo has been received very well with their Gatcha games, Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero. The company and its series could see a bump to their investments as they arrive on Xbox, and hopefully, if Genshin does well enough, Xbox players could see Star Rail and ZZZ arriving on their platform.
While it is a good thing, it’s also funny, Nintendo Switch was supposed to get Genshin Impact, almost on release but it became delayed and ultimately never made it. So to see Xbox get it before Switch IS funny, or sad if you are on Switch still waiting for it to arrive. Regardless, I can’t wait for strictly Xbox players to be able to enjoy the world of Teyvat themselves, as it is a very big, very filled world that can be explored to your heart’s content, so long as you don’t mind playing catch up with their content for a while!
