Pokémon and Pokedex fans rejoice! Well, okay, maybe you should put down the plushies and the trading cards, as this isn’t quite yet about the new Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which is going to be released in late 2025 for the Nintendo Switch 2. No. This is about the Pokedex. Do you remember back in the day, running around on Professor Oak’s request, trying to catch that fleeing Pinsir over and over, and would you just please take the bait-?! Well, Google has partnered with the Pokémon company to bring the old-school 151 back into the spotlight, just this time with a lot fewer mudballs.
Gotta Catch ‘Em All
The Pokedex was and still is a staple of the Pokémon universe, drawing the attention of all the perfectionists and soon to be 100% completionism everywhere, showing young kids the joy of what it’s to have a filled out check list and hours of hours of hard painstaking work just for a piece of paper at the end of it all. Getting the youth ready for college, eh Game Freak? This new Mini game invites the heart of that into play with Google having players sign into their accounts, to keep track of their score, of course, and look up the names of every single Pokémon back in Red, Yellow, and Blue.
Once You Have it Sighted…
Then you throw your Pokeball and- oh wait, this isn’t Pokémon Go– you’ve got to bring it down, weaken it, then you can whip out the shiny ball from within your pocket, give it a good wind-up, and catch it! This will then log the Pokémon into that tracker I mentioned. Your new Pokedex, if you will. After that, you do this again. And again, till you’ve gotten your 151, nostalgia can bid you good night.
A Kind Reminder
There’s not really a known reason why Google and the Pokémon corporation have decided to set out this little mini game of theirs, nor has there been any warning about this drop but it’s fair to assume the goal is building hype about the upcoming release of Pokémon Legends Z-A seeing as that game is going far more old school then most of Nintendo has been.
Or perhaps they just wanted to have a bit of fun. After all, the Switch 2 Direct has been announced, and that must have been stressful for the workers. Maybe a goofy little Pokemon game was a nice stress relief. Either way, picking up that mobile extension will be a fun way to pass the time!
