Attention all dog lovers and horror fans, there’s an adorable game that’s currently in the making. Haunted Paws combines furry friends and frights for a story that revolves around cooperation, puzzles, and a daring rescue mission. The Steam page for this game just went live, but there’s currently no release date that’s set in stone. Thankfully, the developers have released a trailer that gives future players some fun to look forward to.
I took some time to see just what this upcoming indie game will bring to the table. I am quite happy with what I’ve discovered so far, and I will gladly tell you why you should be keeping an eye out for this game.
The Team Behind Haunted Paws
Haunted Paws is the second game by an indie developer group that goes by Lazy Flock. It’s made up of a duo, Mantas and Martynas, who have three years of experience with game development under their belts. They have worked for a variety of different publishers, which led them to create their first game called Void Prison. It was released back in 2022 and is currently listed on Steam for just $2.99. While it’s not the same style as Haunted Paws, I recommend checking it out anyway to show some extra love to indie developers.
Their experience and their continued improvement in their skills both show with Haunted Paws. The dedication towards it shows as well since they’ve been advertising it since March. The game has already gotten loads of on social media with different gaming news outlets talking about it and future players already liking what they see. One of those future players is me since I will undoubtedly be adding this game to my library when release day comes around.
Looking at the Gameplay
In Haunted Paws, you and a buddy of yours will take on the role of two pups on a mission to save their owner from dark forces lurking within a haunted mansion. Together, you will unravel mysteries, solve puzzles, and make a mad dash away from the monsters that will try to keep you from achieving your goal. There’s more to those monsters than meets the eye though since each one of them has a dark past, and just like your owner, they need to be set free too.
Speaking of the co-op aspect of Haunted Paws, there seems to be some even more good news. If the description on Steam is right, only one person will need to buy the game for you two to embark on this spooky yet heartwarming adventure. You’ll also be able to customize your pups by choosing their breed and dressing them up in the silly clothes that will be offered in the game. It’s not clear just how many options there will be, but I’m hoping that I’ll be able to make a pup that looks similar to my own dog.
Final Thoughts
As an enjoyer of all things horror-related and an active player of cozy games, Haunted Paws seems like something right up my alley. While I don’t expect to this game to lean far into its horror aspect, I still can’t wait to see what scares it does have to offer. I can already guarantee that my heart will be racing during the chase scenes shown to be in the game. I’ve found that’s when I get the most nervous when playing just about anything.
I’m sure hearts are racing at Lazy Flock as well since the attention on this game continues to grow. Just like with all the indie developers I’ve covered and will cover in the future, I wish the team the best of luck. I also wish the best of luck for those who are scared of spiders since the one that’ll be in the game is quite the giant.
