A game changer, Mario, came on September 13, 1985, altering our world forever. We learned the terrible plot plaguing another reality. It all begins when two brothers, who you can call super, learn that an evil turtle-like monster named Bowser has kidnapped Princess Toadstool of the Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser, the King Koopa, has used his army to occupy and enslave the inhabitants of the mushroom kingdom. These two brothers, Mario and Luigi, set their plumbing skills aside to take on the Koopa army, free the princess, and overthrow Bowser.
Super Mario is Nintendo’s golden boy
Once we learned about the battle Mario and Luigi were taking on, it wasn’t long before every child worldwide would do almost anything to help. Ever since this first battle that took place back in 1985, Bowser has kept on coming and needed to be handled almost daily.
Just four years later, the land of dreams needed our hero when Wart placed him under his evil spell in a dream. Mario is shaken and takes his friends Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach on a picnic, where they find a small nearby cave. They follow a long stairway up where there is a door, and beyond, they find a place just like Mario’s cursed dream. They team up to overthrow Wart and bring peace to their dreams.
After that, it seemed there wasn’t any limit to our need to help the one under the red hat. In 1990, our heroin Princess Daisy needed help using a Game Boy, this time in a world called Sarasaland. Mario is called to take on a space monster, Tatanga.
The Mario brothers are more than larger than life
The following year, Bowser used a new tactic to take on the Mushroom World by sending his seven children to take it over. The following year, Mario is needed when his vacation with Princess Peach is interrupted on Yoshi Island. Princess Peach suddenly disappears, and Luigi’s brother takes on Bowser again.
The plumber boys and friends have always answered the call from that time and have changed whenever the call for help comes. There have been 24 Mario games in which we have taken on evil in one way or another. They have gone from 2D RPGs to several movies made about their world.
The franchise is set primarily in the Mushroom Kingdom and is a staple being released for every major Nintendo video game console. More than 380 million copies of Super Mario games have been sold, and it doesn’t look like it will stop any time soon.
If you’re a Mario fan, keep the games coming
We have just had the opportunity to see Paper Mario release with The Thousand-Year Door. There are rumors that another version of the Nintendo Switch will be released soon, and there is a chance of Mario spearheading the way. What could be next for our hero, taking on Bowser with a Samurai sword?
You are hooked when you have the chance to play the simplicity of helping save the Mushroom Kingdom in an interactive controlling of his character and friends and see their response on the screen. Bowser doesn’t look like he will ever give up, so hopefully, Mario doesn’t either.
