Fan Recreates Chapter 0 in Resident Evil 4 Remake Featuring a Playable Ashley
Resident Evil 4’s remake was originally going to start with a prologue featuring a playable Ashley Graham, and was promptly named Chapter 0. When Resident Evil 4’s remake was revealed back in 2022, one of the first trailers to release featured Ashley Graham running away from a mysterious figure and past what looks like the shack where Leon’s first starts in the game.
However, Capcom ultimately did away with it. This trailer reveal seemed to suggest a section focused on Ashley was once planned for the remake, and YouTuber Thekempy shared a video focused on Ashley’s cut prologue, referred to as Chapter 0 in the game’s files. Although this part was cut during development, file strings still exist that let Thekempy recreate Chapter 0.
What Would Chapter 0 Have Looked Like?
According to Thekempy, Chapter 0 would have started after Ashley witnesses a ritual killing in the forest, a scene we saw in a story trailer for the game. It was never used in the final release, but we see remnants of the scene when Leon stumbles upon the ritual site.
From there, Ashley would have traversed a path near the lakeside settlement, avoiding Ganados, making her way towards the village. The YouTube video Thekempy has uploaded to his channel suggests that this cut prologue would’ve most likely been just Ashley sneaking and running around until she is eventually kidnapped herself, though this cutscene no longer exists in the game’s files.
Now, is Chapter 0 groundbreaking information that changes the way the game is played? No. This is an extra scene that essentially acts as more background information on Ashley’s whereabouts and situation before we start as Leon, tasked with finding Ashley on the island of Valdelobos.
It’s understandable why this prologue was cut from the final cut of the game, as it’s not a necessary scene that adds much value to the story. However, it is really cool to see a never-before-seen chapter of the Resident Evil 4 Remake recreated for fans of the series.
