Darkwood 2 Announced for Steam and Game Pass

Darkwood 2 is the upcoming sequel to the 2014 game, which was released over 10 years ago. Developers Ice-Pick Lodge had announced the sequel at the ID@Xbox Fall 2025 showcase, a news-packed show featuring world premieres, release date announcements, and new gameplay from developers working on Xbox games at the time. Now, Ice-Pick Lodge has also announced its availability on Steam and Game Pass, so here are all the details on the game.

What is Darkwood 2 About?

The first Darkwood game was released in 2014, and now a sequel is coming out over 10 years later. In this installment, Darkwood 2 will take place a few years later, after the events of the first game. Though this is a direct sequel, the game will feature a brand new storyline, where you are thrust into the world of Darkwood, in the dying Aral Sea. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Aral Sea has become a site of an anomaly. It’s become a forest where everything that goes in does not come out.

You encounter deserted villages, abandoned ships, oil rigs, power stations, and haunting factories in this creepy forest. Trippy, given your location. In this game, the world is descended into chaos, where looters, bikers, and former soldiers control everyone and everything. Humanity is on the brink of extinction, and as a survivor of this world, you have to scavenge for resources, craft your own weapons, and seek shelter every night to live another day. Your choices can determine your own fate and that of everyone around you, the further you progress.

Darkwood 2 is Coming to Steam Soon

Ice-Pick Lodge has announced that Darkwood 2 will be coming to Steam soon and will also be available on the Microsoft Store as well as Xbox Game Pass. There is no current release date for the game, nor an expected release date; however, you can already add the game to your wishlist as well as expect more announcements in the coming months.
