Gloomwood Hightown Walkthrough – How to Survive the Tallest, Meanest, Most Exciting District Yet
Hightown is the moment Gloomwood stops politely nudging you and instead shoves you into a Victorian nightmare with multiple floors, patrolling guards, and enough verticality to make you question every jump. It’s the largest district in the game so far, and it’s designed to test everything you’ve learned — stealth, resource management, and your ability to stay calm when something growls behind you.
This walkthrough will guide you through the major beats of Hightown, help you navigate its layered layout, and point out the safest (and occasionally the most fun) ways to get through it alive.

1. Entering Hightown – Stay Low, Stay Quiet
When you first step into Hightown, the game wastes no time reminding you that you’re not welcome. The streets are wide, the sightlines are long, and enemies patrol in overlapping patterns. Your first goal is simple: don’t fight anything head‑on.
Tips for the opening area:
- Stick to the shadows along the left‑side alleys.
- Avoid the main street — it’s a shooting gallery for enemies with better aim than you’d like.
- Loot the abandoned carts and crates for ammo and bottles. You’ll need both.
Your first objective is reaching the upper terraces, which means finding a safe route upward without alerting the entire district.
2. Reaching the Upper Walkways – Verticality Is Your Friend
Hightown is built like a stack of crooked dollhouses, and the game expects you to climb. Look for:
- Wooden scaffolding
- Drainpipes
- Cracked stone ledges
- Half‑collapsed balconies
Your best early route is through a side building with broken windows. Inside, you’ll find:
- A few pockets of loot
- A ladder leading to the second floor
- A vantage point overlooking the central plaza
From here, you can plan your next move without being spotted.
3. The Central Plaza – The Most Dangerous Open Space
The plaza is the heart of Hightown and the easiest place to die if you get careless. Multiple enemies patrol in rotating patterns, and some have elevated positions that make them hard to sneak past.
You have two main options:
Stealth Route (Recommended)
- Hug the right‑side rooftops.
- Use bottles to distract guards near the lampposts.
- Drop behind the crates near the tailor’s shop.
- Slip through the narrow alley leading to the merchant quarter.
Aggressive Route (If You’re Feeling Bold)
- Use the new long‑range firearm to pick off rooftop enemies first.
- Set traps near the plaza’s choke points.
- Clear the ground level last.
This route is loud, messy, and fun — but it burns through ammo fast.
4. The Merchant Quarter – Loot Heaven, Danger Included
Once you reach the merchant quarter, you’ll find:
- Locked doors
- Barricaded shops
- A few very unfriendly residents
Search thoroughly. This area contains:
- A key needed for the Hightown exit
- A stash of ammo behind a boarded‑up counter
- A healing item tucked behind a fallen shelf
Be careful: one of the buildings has a guard who patrols in a tight circle. Wait for him to turn his back before slipping past.
5. Climbing to the Rooftops – The Safest Path Forward
The rooftops are your best friend in Hightown. They offer:
- Fewer enemies
- Better sightlines
- Multiple escape routes
Look for a collapsed chimney that acts as a ramp. From there, you can:
- Cross wooden planks between buildings
- Drop into an attic with a hidden loot cache
- Reach the final stretch leading to the district exit
Just watch your footing — falling from this height hurts more than your pride.
6. The Final Stretch – The Gatehouse
Your last obstacle is the Gatehouse, a fortified structure guarding the exit to the next zone. It’s heavily patrolled, but there are two reliable approaches:
Silent Approach
- Enter through the broken side window.
- Disable the lone guard inside with a stealth takedown.
- Grab the lever key from the desk.
- Open the gate from the inside.
Direct Approach
- Use the long‑range firearm to thin out rooftop guards.
- Toss a bottle to lure the ground‑level guard into a corner.
- Rush the gatehouse and clear it room by room.
Once the gate is open, slip through and breathe. You’ve earned it.
7. Before You Leave Hightown – Don’t Miss These
- A hidden ammo stash behind a cracked brick wall near the plaza.
- A rooftop chest containing a weapon upgrade.
- A lore note in the tailor’s shop that hints at future zones.
