Quarantine Zone Contraband Guide: Which Items Should You Take?

Let’s be honest with each other for a second. Playing Quarantine Zone isn’t exactly a walk in the park. It is stressful. You are sitting there in your booth, trying to decide who lives and who dies, and suddenly you have to play TSA agent on top of being a medical inspector. It is a lot to manage.

After you survive the first few days of the game, the mechanics shift. You aren’t just looking for coughing survivors or temperature spikes anymore. You have to deal with luggage. Survivors will start approaching your checkpoint carrying bags, and that is when the “Contraband” feature kicks in. It adds a whole new layer of anxiety to your shift because if you mess this up, your paycheck takes a massive hit.

When a survivor drops their bag on the table, the contents spill out. It is your job to sort through the mess. You have to decide what counts as harmless personal effects and what counts as illegal “Contraband” that could endanger the outpost. To help you keep your bank balance in the green and the outpost safe, we have broken down exactly how to handle these inspections.

When you are digging through a survivor’s bag, your number one priority is safety. If it looks like it could hurt someone, poke an eye out, or blow a hole in your wall, you need to confiscate it immediately. This isn’t the time to be nice; it is the time to be paranoid.

If you see any of the following, snatch it up without hesitation:

  • Firearms: Guns of any kind. If it shoots, it goes in your bin.
  • Ammunition: Bullets are just as bad as the guns themselves.
  • Modified Weapons: Anything that looks taped together with malicious intent.
  • Melee Weapons: This includes knives, sturdy sticks, and anything sharp.
  • Tools of Destruction: All types of saws (chainsaws, handsaws, you name it).
  • Explosives: Bombs. Obviously.
  • Illegal Substances: Drugs and syringes.
  • Infected Parts: Occasionally, you will find someone hauling around infected body parts. If you see this, seize the item immediately and treat the survivor as an infected threat. Do not let them pass.

Basically, use common sense. If a survivor can use the item to attack you or someone else inside the sanctuary, it is Contraband. Seize it, or regret it later.

Now, not everyone is trying to smuggle in a weapon of mass destruction. Most folks are just trying to hold onto a piece of their old life. You are going to see a lot of random, everyday clutter. It might be tempting to confiscate everything just to be safe, but hold your horses.

If you seize harmless items, you get slapped with a $100 fine for every mistake. Since you can’t put items back once you have taken them, a few wrong clicks can tank your daily earnings.

Feel free to let these harmless items pass through:

  • Reading Material: Books and magazines are fine. Let them read.
  • Food: Canned goods or snacks. (Note: You cannot keep this food for your own outpost, so don’t get greedy).
  • Comfort Items: Soft toys, teddy bears, and plushies.
  • Memorabilia: Trophies, photos, and keepsakes.
  • Gardening Gear: Trowels and watering cans are generally safe.
  • Household Goods: Towels, milk bottles, lamps, and drills (yes, drills are somehow considered tools, not weapons, in this specific context).
  • Vices: Cigarettes are acceptable.
  • Currency: Money is safe to keep.

The Contraband system in Quarantine Zone is all about balance. You have to be ruthless with weapons but lenient with personal property. Memorize these lists, keep your eyes peeled for those infected body parts, and try not to bankrupt yourself by confiscating a toddler’s teddy bear. Good luck out there!
