Resident Evil Requiem Devs Open Up About Grace And Leon’s Sections Saying They’re Almost Equally Split
After Capcom’s explosive new trailer at The Game Awards this year, revealing Leon as a playable character and finally answering long-overdue Leon rumors, Resident Evil Requiem devs open up about Grace and Leon gameplay, and what we should expect to see in the game once it releases. In an interview with Automaton, Capcom opens up a little more about Grace and Leon, and here’s all you need to know.
Leon Is Back
During last week’s Game Awards, one of the biggest reveals was Capcom’s confirmation of Leon as a playable character in the newest installment in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil Requiem. This installment follows Grace Ashcroft, who is tasked with going back to the ruins of Raccoon City to investigate a string of deaths tied to the infamous city.
Since the announcement for this installment back in July, the rumor mill has gone completely nuts over whether Leon would be making his return to the series after 13 long years. It started with leaks that turned out to be fake, then devs dodging the rumors altogether. It was completely fitting that Capcom would reveal one of the biggest update announcements to the game at The Game Awards, and it is official: Leon is back!
Resident Evil Requiem Devs Open Up About Grace and Leon in New Interview

In an interview with Automaton, as reported by IGN, Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi opens up about Grace and Leon gameplay, revealing that both players’ playable sections are equally split in terms of time. Resident Evil Requiem producer, Masato Kumazawa, talks about Leon’s cutscenes during the reveal trailer and how it was important for them to choose the right car for him. So obviously, he needed a Porsche.
Nakanishi also points out that this is Leon’s first time back to Raccoon City since Resident Evil 2, which is going to be an important point of interest to keep in mind when playing the game. Here are some of the key points of the interview:
“In terms of gameplay, Grace and Leon’s playable sections are almost equally split,”
“The structure is similar to Resident Evil Revelations.”
“so seeing how he responds to the ‘place where it all began’ now that he’s older is another major point of interest.”
“Although he’s a character who carries a lot on his shoulders, we took a lot of care in refining him to be an ‘ikeoji’ [a cool/attractive guy],”
“We were looking for a car that fit Leon, and thankfully, Porsche kindly agreed, which led to a full collaboration.”
“it’s a one-of-a-kind car.”
The developers giving players insight into the backstory behind the two infamous characters helps Resident Evil fans a chance to become even more immersed in the world, something we can all celebrate.
