Resident Evil Requiem ditches Multiplayer

Resident Evil Requiem – Two Sides of the Story and Two Completely Opposite Characters

Resident Evil Requiem has had an amazing week, mainly from Capcom’s most exciting reveal at this year’s Game Awards, of Leon not only returning to the series after 13 years, but returning as a playable character.

This has been one of the most highly anticipated rumors waiting for a confirmation, and has had fans imagining all sorts of wild Leon-related theories. Now that it’s confirmed that Leon will be joining Gracew in Resident Evil Requiem, director Akifumi Nakanishi opens up about both Leon and Grace’s gameplay. Here’s what he had to say.

Resident Evil Requiem’s Leon and Grace Sections are Almost Equally Split

During a new interview with Automaton, Resident Evil Requiem director Akifumi Nakanishi spoke about Leon and Grace’s gameplay. Both characters’ playable sections are almost equally split between the two, likening the gameplay to a previous Resident Evil game, Resident Evil Revelations. Here are some of the key points Nakanishi says during the interview:

“in terms of gameplay, Grace and Leon’s playable sections are almost equally split,”

“Leon isn’t well suited to horror”

“focus on intense, adrenaline-pumping action”

“really emphasizing the difference in their experiences this time.”

Each Side Is So Completely Different From Each Other

Though Grace and Leon’s gametime is equally split throughout the entirety of the game, each character’s side is a completely different style of gameplay. Nakanishi says it’s almost like playing two completely different games, and I believe it.

If we know anything about Resident Evil and Leon’s role within the franchise, Leon is a character more focused on action. Instead of the usual Resident Evil gameplay footprint of badass characters and high-octane action, Resident Evil Requiem will be a psychological horror game, really honing in on the horror aspect of the game. Here are more key points of Nakanishi describing the differences between Leon and Grace’s gameplay:

“almost like having two games with completely different types of tension mixed together.”

“jumping into a cold bath after sitting in a hot sauna,”

“consciously designed horror structure,”

The release of Resident Evil Requiem is just around the corner, and one by one, more details about the game have been dropping courtesy of the devs. Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on February 27, 2026, and is available to pre-order now on all platforms.
