Silent Hill 1 Gets Exciting VR Adaptation Courtesy of a Dedicated Fan

Silent Hill quickly rose to prominence in the horror genre as one of the scariest games to emerge in 1999, spawning over a dozen sequels, a few film adaptations, and now remakes of older games, such as Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 Remake. And remakes have definitely been popping off as of late.

It’s already been confirmed that Bloober Team will also be heading the Silent Hill 1 Remake, which is already in production and expected to launch in the Summer of 2027. However, it seems some fans don’t want ot wait that long for a remake. Apparently, one fan is working on a VR adaptation of the original Silent Hill game, and here’s all we know.

This game is one of the most iconic horror game series in the industry. Aside from being absolutely terrifying, the franchise has cultivated a large fan base dedicated to all things Silent Hill, from theories to game lore. One fan in particular, one who loves to adapt flat screen games into virtual reality, is giving us the OG game in VR.

VRified Games, a self-proclaimed “VR enthusiast who loves getting flat-screen games running in VR”, is working on a VR adaptation of the original game. In the above two-minute-long video, they stressed that their project isn’t a “Fan Remake” or “Port,” but rather an experiment in taking the original title, making it entirely playable in first-person stereoscopic 3D with increased head-tracking and modernized controls. Here is VRified Games’ post on X, detailing all of the changes they are making to the game to make it playable on VR.

There is no release date for the project other than “soon-ish,” and fans are encouraged to subscribe to VRified Games’ YouTube channel for updates on the game’s production, which has included a look at how things will work in real life.

With Resident Evil getting adapted for VR, some fans have been waiting for Silent Hill to shine in virtual reality, which is exactly how VRified Games felt about the subject, writing, “Same, been waiting literally years until I went full Thanos and said, ‘Fine, I’ll do it myself,” responding to someone online while talking about their work.

The Upwards Momentum of Silent Hill

As one of the biggest horror franchises in the gaming industry, it’s certainly surprising that Silent Hill has yet to get a VR adaptation, seeing as how that’s all the rage nowadays. A VR adaptation would honestly be really awesome to experience first-hand, as it would offer such a unique perspective of the game.

The franchise has been on a huge winning streak for the past couple of years. After a 12-year hiatus from the franchise, releasing new original games, Konami teamed up with Bloober Team to release the wildly successful Silent Hill 2 Remake. With updated graphics and added content from the original game, the remake definitely revamped the series and hyped up the latest original title in the series, Silent Hill f.

Silent Hill f was an even bigger success than what people were expecting. Fans and critics definitely worried about this new title, as it took us to a place that actually isn’t the titular town, and changed up the usual slow-burning oppressive horror to more of an action horror game. However, Silent Hill f definitely assuaged these concerns by shattering records, gaining critical recognition, and even winning Game of the Year at the Horror Game Awards last year.

With the upcoming release of a Silent Hill 1 Remake, some fans would love to see the original game adapted into VR, and that’s just what VRified Games is giving us. Though we don’t know when the VR adaptation will release, I know fans are gearing up to experience the horror of the original game in virtual reality.
