Video Ghastlies

Video Ghastlies: The 1 Game That Combines Horror And Classic Cinema

Lights, camera- wait, is that a Video Ghastlies in my VHS tape?! Someone call Ghostbusters, we’re battening down the hatches and taking stock of the weaponry. Where the heck is your brother anyway? In this upcoming release, you play as a concerned sibling trying to find your missing brother after having to do the dishes every night, I presume, and armed with desperation, you reach for him in the only place you know how. His collection of VHS tapes is where you discover that reality isn’t quite as stable as you were led to believe. This would be a good time to major in film studies.

Quite the Haunting Twist

Every video game wants to stand out and make a design that will creep into your mind and sit there like a ghost. Video Ghastlies takes an  Amanda’s playtime adventure approach, pushing the base idea within that game and expanding it to its logical limit.  In other words, as you hunt for your brother, you fall into the tapes he was watching, becoming fully immersed in Silent Era Cinema, Italian Giallo films, 80s Body Horror, Found Footage, to name a few styles.

You’re Not the Only One Looking

As you flip through these tapes defeating the lurking creatures within after finding era appropriate weapons, sorting through riddles and tricks like the new detective you’ve become, locating parts and bits to survive a realization becomes clear, only adding to the layers behind your brother’s lack of house cleaning.. the tapes you have.. are banned by the government- and for a much better reason then being Chinese rip offs. Video Ghastlies are watching you, and if they’re watching you..what have they done to your flesh and blood?

Good Looking, Releasing!

Though Video Ghastlies does not have a date for freedom launch quite yet, it’s a game that should be kept an eye on and one that’ll pop up on YouTube when it does. This kind of game is well-contained and tight, as long as the developer, a single man in Scotland, understands how to write storylines, there’s no reason such a concept shouldn’t take off- there’s so much potential in an exploration like this! Here’s hoping that taping up the webcam will give me an edge over those ghouls in the night.
