How Long is Final Fantasy 7 Remake?

Final Fantasy is my favorite video game series of all time. I have played almost every single installment, and have adored this series since I was a young kid. I remember playing the Final Fantasy 7 Remake when it was first released, all the way back in 2020. It was the start of the pandemic, and what a great game to have when lockdown was fully enforced.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake was a game that was hotly anticipated for years. Genuinely, this might have been the most anticipated game of all time, other than maybe Half-Life 3. Square Enix announced before the game’s release that it would be the first of three parts of what they would call the “remake trilogy”. With that in mind, how long is the Final Fantasy 7 Remake?

Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Runtime

On your first playthrough, Final Fantasy 7 Remake should last you around 30 to 40 hours. It honestly depends on what kind of gamer you are. When I first played the game, my initial playthrough lasted around there. But I am the kind of player who will tackle and complete all of the side quests and optional tasks if I really enjoy the game. This game was no exception to that rule.

I even got the Platinum trophy for this game. I remember that. It took me so long to get that for a couple of reasons. Many of the optional quests in this game are either fetch quests or involve fighting a boss. In the endgame, there are a ton of really high-level boss fights that are optional, but also quite challenging. Completing these fights will get you items and gear as well as trophies.

If you’ve played the game before, you are probably familiar with this section. In the area known as Wall Market, Cloud and Aerith need to go undercover. To do so, Cloud cross-dresses as a woman, and half of the quest is gathering the proper makeup, clothes, and even approval for this to happen. Unlike the original, the player can also change how Tifa and Aerith’s dresses end up looking.

This part is a bit complicated, but let it be known that it requires a lot of replaying and saving and repeating things from that point if they don’t go well. This was the last trophy I got for the Platinum, and it ended up being the most tedious. It wasn’t even combat-related. It was just a lot of replaying missions. But if you want to get the platinum trophy, I would give this game about 45 to 50 hours. That’s not too bad, considering it is a Final Fantasy game.

Final Fantasy’s Past and Future

I make that point above because many Final Fantasy games can be quite lengthy. I remember when I played 12 for the first time. That game took me close to 50 hours just to beat the main campaign. I didn’t even do a ton of the side missions. Final Fantasy 16 also took a long time as well. Personally, it lasted about 50 hours, but getting the Platinum trophy took me close to 100. That game was my main summer game last year too.

As for the next games in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake anthology, Rebirth was even longer. That game took about 70 hours to beat because of how big and expansive it is. If I had to guess, I would say the third game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series might be the same length, if not longer. They definitely pulled out all the stops for Rebirth. I’m really excited about this series’ final entry! Everyone should be!
