Leon Kennedy AKA Leon S. Kennedy/Leon Scott Kennedy is a main character from the Resident Evil games that premiered way back in Resident Evil 2 in 1998. Since then, he’s made appearances in numerous Resident Evil works such as Resident Evil 4 and 6, the Netflix RE show Infinite Darkness, as well as a few CGI movies too.
Given all his adventures throughout the Resident Evil franchise, one must ask themselves, how many years has Leon Kennedy been battling zombies and other B.O.Ws and is he close to retirement? Lucky for you, I’m here to break down Leon’s adventures and give you a definitive answer on his age!
Resident Evil 2/RE2 Remake: Age 21

Leon Kennedy made his first appearance at the age of 21 in Resident Evil 2 which took place in 1998. In the game, he’s a rookie cop with his first day on the job having to deal with a zombie-infested Racoon City which let’s be honest, seems pretty rough. He’d also meet Claire Redfield who is the sister of Chris Redfield and Ada Wong in RE2 as well.
The RE2 Remake doesn’t change Leon’s age so he’s still canonically 21 years old during the events of Resident Evil 2 Remake. Considering he was 21 during the events of the game, I’d say he handled himself pretty well.
Operation Javier: Age 25

In 2002 at the age of 25, Leon Kennedy and Jack Krauser went on a mission together called Operation Javier which was playable in the 2009 game, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. During Operation Javier, Leon and Krauser were sent to South America to deal with a viral outbreak of the T-Virus.
RE4 Remake also references Operation Javier but the game’s producer Yoshiaki Hirabayahsi said in an interview with IGN that the Operation Javier mission Leon and Krauser go on in the RE4R continuity is different compared to the one in Darkside Chronicles.
Resident Evil 4/RE4 Remake: Age 27

Two years later in 2004, the events of Resident Evil 4/RE4 Remake take place where Leon Kennedy is sent in to save the President’s daughter, Ashley Graham. Leon is 27 now and gone is the naïve idealistic boy scout from RE2 and in his place is more of a jaded man.
Leon has had to live with the events of what happened in Racoon City and it’s clearly traumatized him and shaped him into the person he is in remake.
Degeneration: Age 28
Released in 2008, Resident Evil: Degeneration takes place about a year later in 2005 and is set between RE4 and RE5. The film sees Leon and Claire team up again to fight zombies. Leon Kennedy is now 28 and presumably hasn’t seen or spoken with Claire in years so the film serves as a way to have them team up again.
In the film, Leon and Claire have to deal with a T-Virus outbreak at an airport that turns many of the people inside of it into zombies. The film also sets up Tricell as one of the villains for Resident Evil 5.
Infinite Darkness: Age 29
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is a CGI series that takes place in 2006 and again sees Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield team up. Leon is now pushing 30 and has been “willingly” working for the government for about eight years now.
Damnation: Age 34
The next time we see Leon he is in his mid-30s and has been sent to an Eastern Slav Republic during a civil war. Damnation takes place between RE5 and RE6 with Leon encountering the Las Plagas parasite again. Leon also sees Ada Wong again after not seeing her since 2004.
Resident Evil 6: Age 36
Two years later in 2013 Leon Kennedy is one of the protagonists of another mainline Resident Evil game. He might be 15 years older from when we first saw him but Leon is still in his prime as ever. Resident Evil 6 deal with an outbreak of the C-Virus which is a combination of the T and G viruses. I’m not sure how T and G make C but I’m also not a virologist.
In what’s pretty much an expected theme at this point is Ada popping up and making trouble for Leon as Capcom continues to tease us with a will they/won’t they relationship for Leon and Ada.
Vendetta: Age 37
In 2014, we see Leon and Chris team up for the CGI film Resident Evil: Vendetta. Leon is now 37 and is requested to lend his expertise on a mission that sees the Los Plagas parasite resurface. Rebecca Chambers who hasn’t been seen since RE0/RE1 makes her reappearance for Vendetta.
Fun fact: Vendetta is also the first appearance of a child zombie in an official Capcom Resident Evil project, so kid zombies are canon in the RE universe now which is kind of messed up.
Death Island: Age 38
Resident Evil: Death Island takes place in 2015 with Leon Kennedy being 38 years old and drawing ever closer to 40. While not a direct sequel to Vendetta, it does make references to previous films and games such as Vendetta, RE4, Degeneration, RE2, etc.
What’s cool about Death Island is we see all of the Resident Evil protagonists team up together. All of them except for Ethan Winters who isn’t a protagonist yet since Death Island takes place two years before Resident Evil 7.
Leon Kennedy is 60 in 2037
While Leon Kennedy hasn’t made a direct story appearance in a game since RE6, the Rose DLC which is set in 2037 would make Leon 60 years old since he was born in 1977! As cool at it would be to see an elderly Leon Kennedy I’m hoping we at least get another game with him first before he’s a senior citizen.
