Hardwood plays a very important role in Stardew Valley. It’s needed for various mid to late-game tasks like crafting items and upgrading buildings. Getting this wood can be a challenge due to its specific spawning locations and the tools needed to collect it. In this article, we’re going to go over everything you need to know about hardwood including where to get it, efficient collecting techniques, and more.
What is Hardwood and Where to Get it?
Hardwood is a rare type of wood in the game. Regular wood can be collected easily from any tree, but hardwood requires specific sources and tools to obtain it. It’s so sought after because it’s essential for crafting advanced items like the Cheese Press and Oil Maker. As to where you can find hardwood… it can be found in the following:
Mahogany Trees
You’ll need to plant and grow these trees to harvest them. To start, get Mahogany Seeds. These can be found by chopping down Mahogany Trees, chopping down the stumps in the Secret Woods, or defeating Slimes in the Secret Woods. You can also trade one Stingray for a Mahogany Seed with the Island Trader. Once you have seeds, plant them on your farm or in other available spaces. Mahogany Trees take some time to mature. Using tree fertilizer can speed up this process.
Large Stumps
Large Stumps are another source of this wood. You can find these on your farm and in the Secret Woods. It’s important to note that the stumps respawn in the Secret Woods but not on your farm. If you’re using the Forest Farm map, large stumps will also respawn regularly on the western portion of the farm. The Secret Woods contains six Large Stumps that respawn daily. They provide up to 12 pieces each day. To access the Secret Woods, you must clear the large log blocking the entrance using at least a Steel Axe.
Large Logs
Large logs are found in front of the Secret Woods and on your farm. To obtain hardwood from these, you need a Steel Axe or better. Clearing the large log blocking the path to the Secret Woods will reveal more sources of this wood. These logs do not respawn after removal but are valuable for immediate collection.
Efficient Hardwood Harvesting Techniques
To get hardwood fast, visit the Secret Woods daily. It has six large stumps, which respawn each day. This is the most consistent source of this rare wood in the game. Regular visits will keep your supply steady for crafting and building needs. In addition, The Forest Farm map offers distinct advantages for collecting this wood. This map includes large stumps that respawn daily, making it easier to gather this type of wood. Combine all this with mahogany tree planting and you’ll have the most optimized collection process.
