How to Tame Foxes in Minecraft’s Blocky World 2024

Foxes are thought to be cunning and mischievous in real life. In Minecraft, they aren’t much different, from stealing loot off the ground to running at Mach-speed away from the player. Some players may be delighted to learn that players can tame foxes in the sandbox survival game. These furry friends take trust to build a friendship with, as they are rather skittish and run from the player. Foxes can only be found in certain biomes across Minecraft‘s blocky world.

How To Find Foxes In Minecraft

Added in update 1.14, red foxes can be found in taigas and old-growth taigas while white foxes are found in mountain groves and snowy taigas. These canines spawn in groups of 2-4. Each adult fox has a 20% chance to spawn with an item in its mouth. There is a 5% chance for this item to be an emerald, a 10% chance for it to be a rabbit’s foot or rabbit hide, a 15% chance for an egg, a 20% chance for wheat or leather, and finally, a 20% chance for the fox to spawn with a feather. During nighttime, foxes usually head to the nearest village. During the day, they rest peacefully under spruce trees or wander.

Accumulate Trust To Tame Foxes

Taming foxes isn’t as simple as some other creatures in Minecraft you can befriend. To tame foxes in Minecraft, you must gain their trust first. Naturally spawning foxes cannot be tamed, but breeding two adults will yield a trusting kit. Foxes enter love mode when fed sweet berries or glow berries. Baby foxes that trust the player will not run away like untrusting foxes. However, because they are babies, they will still follow their parents. This results in the baby fox running away and possibly getting lost. To prevent this, simply attach a lead to the baby fox or dispose of the parents.

Once an adult, the trusting fox will attack any mob that attacks the player first. This is not to be confused with the fox attacking any mob you attack like wolves do. The fox will attack zombies, drowned, zombified piglins, endermites, husks, skeletons, spiders, cave spiders, silverfish, strays, wither skeletons, evokers, pillagers, ravagers, vindicators, vexes, pandas, goats, blazes, endermen, phantoms, and other players’ tamed wolves. Foxes will retreat from polar bears and wild wolves. Despite attacking zombies, a trusting fox cannot attack zombie villagers. This could be due to the Minecraft fox’s habit of seeking villages at night.

Trivia And Closing Thoughts

When a fox is killed while holding a totem of undying, it will consume the totem and revive itself. This is a good method of keeping a tamed fox alive. Wolves and polar bears both attack foxes, so ensuring your fox is kept in a safe place is mandatory if those mobs lurk nearby. Foxes attack many animals lower on the food chain including fish, rabbits, and chickens. Some players use foxes to farm sweet berries due to their ability to harvest the crop and walk through it without taking any damage. Foxes are one of the few mobs in Minecraft able to sit and sleep. These little creatures are a joyful addition to any Minecraft base.
