Ys 10: Nordics is releasing next month, on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and PS5. With four platforms to choose from, it can be difficult to pick which version of a game to buy. Your answer will of course vary depending on your priorities and what you have available. Though its specs aren’t as high as its competitors, the Switch is nonetheless a great console. Let’s take a look at what makes the Nintendo Switch the best platform to play Ys 10: Nordics on.
Play Options

One of the Switch’s main selling points is that games can be played in both handheld mode and docked mode and that the console can seamlessly move between the two modes. Whether you want to play your games on the go or at the TV, the Switch makes that change quick and easy. While the Steam Deck can be connected to an external display, it’s not as simple as with the Switch. The Steam Deck doesn’t come with a dock out of the box like the Switch does, and some troubleshooting may be required. Additionally, with the Steam Deck docked and connected to a TV you’ll need another controller, whereas the Switch’s Joycons can disconnect from the console.
The other platforms that Nordics will be releasing on aren’t portable, so they can only be played where they’re kept. Even with a gaming laptop, having it unplugged can often result in lower performance to conserve battery life, along with the risk of the laptop overheating. With the Switch, you have more options when it comes to how you want to play, whether that’s on the couch or on a long road trip.
Price
Out of the platforms that Ys 10: Nordics will be available on, the Switch and the Switch OLED are the cheapest options when buying new units. Of course, buying a refurbished or used console will generally be cheaper than buying new. However, there are risks with buying a used or refurbished console that aren’t as likely when buying a new console. This lower price makes the Switch a more accessible option.
While we don’t know yet how much Nordics will cost on launch, Lacrimosa of Dana currently costs $39.99 on Steam, and Monstrum Nox currently costs $59.99. The game’s Japanese release launched at a price of ¥8580, which converts to roughly $61. With games steadily becoming more expensive, it makes sense to pick a console that won’t drain your wallet.
Preorder Bonuses
While Ys 10: Nordics will also be available on PC through storefronts like Steam and GOG, the PC edition isn’t available for preorder. If you’re someone who likes to get special or limited edition copies of the games you’re looking forward to, those are only available for the console versions of Nordics.
The Deluxe Edition of Nordics, selling for $59.99, includes a digital soundtrack (much like the Limited Edition of Monstrum Nox did), a mini art book, and a copy of the game. Meanwhile, the Limited Edition sells for $104.99, and includes a collector’s box, the full art book, a soundtrack disc, a pin, a postcard set, a sling bag, and a copy of the game.
Potential Problems
As with any gaming console, the Switch has seen its fair share of issues. The original version of the Switch had poor construction of the stand on the back of the console, and of course there’s the infamous risk of Joycon drift. While thankfully the Switch OLED fixed the issues with the stand, there have still been reports of Switch OLED owners experiencing Joycon drift.
Some players experienced performance issues with their Switch copies of Lacrimosa of Dana and Monstrum Nox, though this also wasn’t universal. With Nihon Falcom now developing for the Switch in-house, perhaps this could mean less performance issues for Switch copies of their games going forward.
Final Thoughts
The Switch might not have the highest specs, but it’s a great choice for anyone who wants the option to game on the go or on the couch, or who wants to save a little extra money. Ys 10: Nordics looks to be a phenomenal entry in a spectacular series, no matter which platform you play it on.
