At the latest Gamescom event of 2024, Xbox released a new trailer for the highly anticipated game “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.” A first-person action-adventure game being developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks. Players will be controlling LucasArts’ Indiana Jones, exploring hidden temples, and uncovering secrets. Although the trailer featured a ton of new gameplay from the game as well. FPS Combat
The trailer featured a lot of gameplay from Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and a majority of it is in first person. Except for the cutscenes and climbing sections, all the games will be in first person. The game aims to put players into the shoes of Indiana Jones so they can experience what it feels like to be a legendary explorer.
The trailer also featured some combat gameplay. Players will be able to punch and deflect enemy attacks in a class brawl fashion. Players can also use various tools to add variety to their gameplay. Some whip action was also shown in the trailer, allowing players to disarm opponents as well as push them over the ledges.
Temple Exploration
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is expected to deliver a brand-new narrative, separate from the film. However, it is still expected to deliver the same sense of exploration, adventure, and mystery that fans crave. The trailer highly emphasizes the exploration aspect and will have players solving puzzle elements throughout the game.
There were a few temple sequences that were shown in the trailer, and they seem akin to the temples we have seen in the films. These temples will feature hidden secrets, traps, dangers, and treasures that will fully immerse the players. Exploration is a core aspect of the game and players must uncover all the clues and objects they can find to progress their journey and find ancient secrets.
Environment Supporting Gameplay
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle showcased gameplay that is extremely accurate to the locations that fans have visited in the game. It goes hand-in-hand with the exploration aspect of the game. Thanks to the visually impressive graphics, each location is aiming to completely immerse the player.
Players will be in a world of constant danger and mystery. They will be exploring temples deep in the forest to scorpion riddle desert tombs as well as open areas. These open areas will feature a ton of exploration that players can explore on their own. Players will also have their personalized journal as well as a camera which they can use to gather all the historical details and mysteries. This game is everything that a fan should expect from an Indiana Jones game, perfectly capturing what makes the films so special and fun.
Utilizing Motion Capture For FPS
Throughout the trailer, Troy Baker expresses his love for Indiana Jones as he now plays the all-round adventurer. Not only voicing the archaeologist but also acting in every movement that is significant to Indiana Jones’ skillset. This includes whip animations, spear throwing, and even boulder running. Similar to God of War Ragnarok, MachineGames uses motion capture suits for the Great Circle’s character’s animations. Using a first-person perspective, players will feel the weight of playing Indiana Jones. The trailer shows proof of how the camera supports the gameplay and movement the developers are aiming for.
The Great Circle is coming to Xbox series X | S, Xbox Game Pass, and on Steam on December 9, 2024. This game is not an Xbox exclusive, however, and will be released on PlayStation 5 in the Spring of 2025.
