Jingle Hells is returning in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The limited-time game mode has only ever been in one CoD title: Black Ops Cold War in 2020. Four years later, the mode is coming back for a limited time in the current game’s zombies. This comes as part of the Season 1 Reloaded update. These updates often focus on Multiplayer, but the Zombies mode is getting a lot of attention with this mode and a new map. Here’s what we know about it.
Jingle Hells Returns to BO6 Zombies
Jingle Hells is not just a re-skin for zombies, though that’s one of the biggest perks. The entire map, in this case it will be Liberty Falls, is going to be redesigned with a Christmas theme. The map won’t just get Christmas decorations added to motel room doors or in the bowling alley. Instead, the whole thing is being redone with incredible detail. The map will be set in winter, which means the trees will be dead, everything will be mostly lifeless (even more than the deserted town already is), and the river outside Liberty Falls will be frozen over.
This will also make Black Ops 6 Zombies a little harder. The cold weather will actually slow down movement, as it’s much harder to stay warm and run at full speed in the winter. Sometimes, it will get so cold that you will hardly be able to move and you’ll have to retreat indoors to warm up. You can also collect snowballs as equipment to take down zombies.
Every single zombie, including elite zombies, vermin, and more, will have Christmas-themed makeovers. Vermin will now be called tinsel makers. Some zombies will be naughty as they usually are, but others will be nice and drop presents after elimination. These can give you weapons and other items to use. The Easter egg will not be disabled during this time, so you can still complete it just on a slightly harder version of the map.
Liberty Falls is one of just two launch maps for this game’s zombies mode. However, with a new one arriving and more planned for the future, there’s still plenty to do outside of multiplayer and campaign mode. Jingle Hells provides another wrinkle and gives players an enjoyable shift from the monotony of the same map over and over again. It’s like when Fortnite redesigns the island with Christmas decorations and snow. It doesn’t change much about the gameplay, but it’s a nice shift for players who are playing the games frequently.
Where Jingle Hells Originated
Jingle Hells was first added to Call of Duty in Black Ops Cold War, which effectively serves as BO5. That also makes it technically the prequel to Black Ops 6. Die Maschine was the map that got this treatment, changing the map to be more festive and cold. Aside from that, there were some major changes between the regular Die Maschine and the Christmas variant. For example, the Mystery Box was entirely removed from the map, and even if a Fire Sale was active, it didn’t appear. This also made it impossible to complete Seal the Deal as the standard anomalies to the Dark Aether were disabled.
Merry Christmas
The return of Jingle Hells indicates that the developers of Black Ops 6 do care about zombies. It can sometimes feel like the game is way more focused on multiplayer than anything. However, with a stellar campaign and a lively zombies mode so far, that doesn’t appear to be the case this time. In fact, zombies might be getting the bulk of the attention with a brand-new map and the return of a fan-favorite limited-time mode for an existing map. Either way, it’s a fantastic time to play zombies and enjoy the holiday season. Starting tomorrow, you can do both at the same time.
