Just Crow Things is a cute indie game full of feathery chaos. The game, made by Unbound Creations, was released on August 15. It features puzzles, silly animal characters, and a simple story to motivate players through a wild time. It combines simple controls, pop culture references, and absolute absurdity to create a hilarious experience. Here’s a bit of a deeper dive into this game and the weirdness players can discover.
The Story of a Little Crow
In Just Crow Things, the player takes on the role of a young crow just trying to make it in the world. However, the journey of leaving the nest takes a turn when a gang of other crows steals the feathery hero’s beloved sunglasses. This takes the player on a journey to get them back, but the task isn’t so simple. The bird’s travels become full of terrorizing humanity, helping fellow forest friends, and solving strange puzzles.
Unbound Creations was able to show off the game during the Women-Led Games showcase at this year’s Summer Game Fest. Future players were able to see a snippet of what they could get up to within Just Crow Things. However, that brief trailer does not hold a candle to some of the wildest happenings in this charming and cartoony game.
A Game Full of Chaos
The amount of mischief the feathery protagonist of Just Crow Things gets up to is astounding. It ranges from swooping down to steal shiny trinkets to unleashing a plague of frogs on an unsuspecting marketplace. Each of the levels in the game has its unique troubles that need to be solved.
The solutions to these problems often involve terrorizing humans with interactable objects or droppings that the little crow unashamedly rains down upon them. However, foes such as zombies and shadow creatures also have to be maneuvered around in certain areas.
Throughout the game, the chaos that the players take part in is rewarded through cosmetics they can earn or find on their own. They can dress up their crows as things such as a witch, a samurai, an Eldritch horror, and much more.
For the earnable cosmetics, a total of 150 points need to be gained per level to receive all of them. These points are gained through completing all required and optional quests as well as races littered across each map.
Final Thoughts
Just Crow Things is a delight of a chaotic indie game. Those who enjoy games like Untitled Goose Game or Goat Simulator are bound to have fun playing this one. The game features enough diversity in its wackiness that the levels don’t get repetitive. In terms of length, it is short since each of the levels is easy to complete.
The only real difficulty can be found within certain races or quests with collectibles that players may overlook. All in all, Just Crow Things is a charming and fun game that’s full of humor that more people should be trying out.
At full price, the game is $19.99. At the time of writing this article, it’s on sale for $17.99. For console users, it’s available on Nintendo Switch, PS4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. For people who prefer to play on a computer, it’s available to play on Microsoft Windows, Linux, and macOS.
